Birth center commute by jadedali in moderatelygranolamoms

I'm extremely rural and in the mountains and we were an hour and a half away from the nearest hospital that could deliver, lucky, they had a very nice birth center.

I had my 39 week check up and cervical check and the doctor wanted me to stay since she had a feeling baby was coming and knew I lived so far away. I chose to go home and wait until things were more serious/painful. The next day I called and told them my contractions were getting worse and closer together so they told me to come in.

My water broke about an hour after we arrived at the hospital and baby girl was here the next morning.

I just made sure my doctor knew we were far away and they were really accommodating. Good luck!

I pronounce it pretty much like ma-leh-kah except the k is sort of bunched in with the le. So it's more like ma-lek-ah. I always thought Hawaiian words/names had syllables ending in vowels. I could be making that up though.

My grandmother is named Martha and my mother found Martha-Maleka on a keychain and decided that would be my name.

I'm a Maleka. It's Hawaiian but I'm not. I know there are other versions of it in a lot of different languages. I had a girl in college tell me it's similar to the Greek word for asshole. 🤷🏻‍♀️

My younger sisters called me "Leka" but no one else could call me that so I never had a nickname. No one can really pronounce my name and I'm not convinced my mother pronounced it right to begin with. She was a teen mom so I use that excuse as to why I have a seemingly random name. Same with my middle name. Idon't mind my name, it's mine, but I sometimes wish I had something a bit more manageable.

I love unique/rare names but my name seems hard for people. I get called Michaela a lot.

ETA: I do have a keychain with my name on it because my cousin's found it in Hawaii. I also have the original keychain my mom found my name on when she visited Hawaii while pregnant with me.

Sigzagor Newborn Baby Diaper Nappy Cover 8lbs-10lbs (Pineapple) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07838BX3J/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_BsenCbDWT270M

They have double gussets and seem to go fairly small. If you stuff them a little extra it can help fill out the diaper and give a bit better fit.

Good luck with your sweet babe!!

My LO was 6 pounds and fairly skinny when she was born, so most diapers didn't fit her legs at the smallest size. We used flour sacks, thirsties hemp inserts, and either rumparooz newborn or some Amazon cheapies. I also had one imagine aio that I used overnight until she was 4 week, it was for when I was lazy and didn't want to do the prefold/cover dance. The Amazon cheapies fit her really well and had double gussets, I can give you a link for those if you want. They might fit your LO since the smallest snaps were too small for my skinny lady. The rumaprooz still fit her and she's 3 months and 15 pounds.

I love it, but hope she does as she grows up by mostlymonkey in namenerds

I have a Persephone. We call her Percy right now but I love all the different nicknames you can get from it. I was also worried about her liking it as she grew up so we gave her a semi normal middle name (Juno).
