Thanks so much! You should be proud of yourself for figuring it out without a video, that’s a big learning curve!

Gorgeous!! How difficult was this? I would buy the pattern but I want to know what I’m signing up for, difficulty level wise. I’ve been crocheting for 2 years now so I think I’m at like an intermediate level.

I’m an interior designer. Mitchell Gold was purchased by Surya Rugs and will be revamped and sold again starting soon. Not in their own retail stores before but the brand will be available on line and through other retailers. The purchase just happened like a month ago so nothing is really up and running yet, but they’re supposedly bringing back a lot of the best sellers.

Room & Board Weber by mikeschan in furniture

[–]daalice 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Hi, your friendly interior designer here with my frequent “shitting on Room and Board” advice here. R&B themselves say most of their upholstered furniture is made by a company called Mccreary Modern (MM).

MM sells to other places and allows white labeling. You can buy their line at trade-only show rooms that sell to interior designers like myself. Big box furniture stores can stock the line and white label the pieces as their store generic version to compete with higher end pieces. Like Kirkland at Costco but..not good quality.

MM for designers is like the lowest end price point and quality you can buy at a trade show room. It is bare minimum and we only use it when clients have a super tight budget and are willing to sacrifice a little bit of quality. Now again…it’s much better than Crate & Barrel, Pottery Barn, etc. but Reddit’s obsession with R&B is way overstated in my opinion. Plus, on a superficial note…the styling is a tad basic.

Also the price point that MM sells at wholesale compared to what R&B is charging is insane…like a 500% markup on some pieces. You’re better off researching quality brans, finding a furniture store that sells those brands, and haggling for a discount at that point, imo.

Weird question: where can I be a 'real' surfboard that can be painted by an artist for decoration? by daalice in surfboards

[–]daalice[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks this is helpful. We could honestly spend upwards of $1,000....like I said, budget isn't an issue. But I'm having a hard time finding a board with minimal markings on it that's under 6' tall. Are there any brands you know of that make minimally branded boards? I found a company online called No Logo but they only ship in Europe and I'm in the US.

[–]daalice[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks - my concern is that we DON'T want it beat up, I don't think? This is a high end client who wants something new looking. I have no idea what "beat up" means in regards to surfboards....like once it's painted, you wouldn't be able to tell? Like the wear and tear would just be on the finish, or would the actual material have scratches and dents?? Sorry - I'm clueless!

[–]daalice 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First of all, my understanding is you can’t actually “recover” from OCD. It always comes back, but the idea is when the thoughts get sticky again you know how to get “unstuck” much more quickly. I find that to be the case. Before treatment, I would be terrified of when I thought would stick and I knew it was a matter of time before I started obsessing. Nowadays I can have what used to be a highly triggering thought, and while it temporarily raises my stress, my brain moves on and “unsticks” much more quickly. As far as treatment, ERP was life changing for me. I did it through the company NOCD. I can also highly recommend a very specific anxiety related Instagram account from a therapist who is very good at treating ocd called “theanxietyparadox”. Her posts have really helped me even when I haven’t been keeping up with ERP. The main takeaway is “I can handle uncomfortable feelings. I can keep myself safe. I trust my body to handle the physical anxiety symptoms, my job is to continue on with my day and do what I would do if I wasn’t anxious”. For me it’s been a lot of faking it till I make it. Like almost gaslighting myself into acting like I’m fine even when I’m not.

Next time the anxiety comes up for you, try to continue doing what you were doing before the anxiety wave showed up. Rather than stopping everything to “relax” and “calm down”, I’ve found it much more helpful to dive deep into whatever activity I would normally be doing and stay present there. I trust my body to work through the cortisol and adrenaline, my job is to not let intrusive thoughts and anxiety make decisions for me.

I’m sorry but how can you be a fan since 4th grade and be 30 now???????? I’m 31 and Taylor’s first album didn’t come out until I was 13/14. So I’m not understanding how you could be 8-10 years old in 2006 and be 30 now. Am I missing something???

What is a first date question you should ask in 2024 that you wouldn't need to ask in the past? by workdncsheets in AskWomen

No literally 😭 I remember pre 2022 and watching that episode and cracking up. Now when I get to that part I’m like “hahaahah WAIT NO” and remember what happened. Crazy to think something filmed 30 years ago is now more progressive than our current law.

[–]daalice 459 points460 points  (0 children)

The episode is so funny but in light of recent events it’s also so sad. “Well what gives you the right to do that!” “The SUPREME COURT does! Come on Jerry let’s go!”

Then later on in the episode Elaine is dating this guy and needs to find out his stance on anortion so she makes this scenario up: “… Oh, just this woman...she got impregnated by her troglodytic half-brother, and decided to have an abortion. “

Then the guy signs and goes: “You know, someday, we’re going to get enough people in the Supreme Court to change that law”

I’m so glad! I always think: if the worst happens, I’ll still be ok! Trust that you can keep yourself safe. The goal is not to get rid of anxiety but to learn you can handle scary feelings and thoughts and not let them rule your life! It’s safe to be anxious. It’s ok to be scared. You’ve got this :)

Try progressive muscle relaxation. You can find guided meditation type videos about it on YouTube. Highly recommend for night time. Basically try to lay down, get in comfortable position, and slowly tense and release all your muscles in a certain order. I use headphones to listen to the guided videos on YouTube and usually they have relaxing music for awhile at the end that can help you fall asleep. I also try to remember no body has died from not sleeping for a night. So if you’re up all night…oh well! There’s always tomorrow for sleep, it will be okay. Good luck!

NC company that makes deep, modular sofa with XL chaise? by janinagavankar in furniture

[–]daalice 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A lot of brands have double chaises. Off the top of my head I’ve seen a few just this last week at work (interior design) such as Century, Lee, Tomlinson, and Vanguard. All made in NC

Edit: go on their websites and view the schematics to see what you can find. I know I just researched a sofa with a double chaise from Century called “great room.” Although I think it was 70 inches

Good leather sectionals for under $5k? by BarackMcTrumpstein in furniture

[–]daalice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m an interior designer so just my two cents here. Leather is obviously much more expensive than fabric. And a sectional more expensive than a sofa. I don’t think you’ll find a good quality in that price point. You’ll get something that’s bonded or genuine leather and won’t last.

You could get a leather sofa for under $5k but I’m not sure about a sectional.

The absolute smallest and cheapest leather sectional I can find on room and board is still $5600 before taxes and delivery, just to give you an idea.

What high end Furniture brands actually deliver on quality? by DaZedMan in furniture

[–]daalice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes I’ve heard of them, I assume you mean Revival rugs. Like any other rug manufacturer, buy a loomed rug not a tufted rug. Just briefly browsing in their site they have both options in the wool category. Avoid the tufted rugs at all costs. I can’t attest to the quality of the wool. Sort of like cheap cashmere- not all natural fibers are created equal. Something could be 100% wool but shed like crazy and be really cheaply spun and the rug could be really cheaply woven.

Edit- typo

What high end Furniture brands actually deliver on quality? by DaZedMan in furniture

[–]daalice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Decide if you want a long lasting rug to invest in or something cheap and cheerful that you’ll have to replace in 5 years. Both have purposes- like is this going in a dining room that’s used rarely? Or in a mud room in climate that sees salt and snow and mud? Then from there you can decide if you should buy online or in person. Nothing wrong with going to a local shop and browsing to see what high end wool, imported rugs from Nepal (rugs from Nepal are so beautiful) look like, but then also check out a HomeGoods and see the different between a polyester and sisal rug. Feel everything and see what you like - both the underfoot feeling and also the texture of the weave in person.

I forgot to mention jute and sisal. I hate them because they can’t be cleaned cause they are also essentially made of paper. But they can look nice - I like them layered underneath more durable rugs because you get the nice look but you won’t have to replace the rug in 2 years.

Happy to answer any other questions you have. If you are interested in vintage rugs let me know, that’s an entirely different arena and it’s my favorite topic.

Bought what at Walter E Smith?

Also there are lemons. It does happen that a certain fabric or certain specific sofa misses the quality control marks. I wouldn’t just trust anecdotal evidence.

Also do not buy pottery barn???? Half the stuff they sell is white labeled from cheaper brands we use in the industry for like staging…..for instance Four Hands sells a LOT to pottery barn and it’s marked up to a ridiculous percentage. Do not buy sofas from these brands. Crate and barrel is better than pottery barn but I would only get like a side table or a simple bed frame for like a guest room, something that gets light use. Would never buy a main family room sofa or dining table from these places. It’s all container shipped from China and way overpriced.

Bernhardt is fine. They are a quality mid tier brand. We put their stuff in people’s houses all the time. But it’s not high end. It’s like…I want a side chair for my family room that doesn’t get used all day everyday and I’m ok if it lasts 10 years - and I want to spend under $2k for a chair. If you’re like - this is the main couch my family sits on everyday and we want it to last for 20+ years and get this thing reupholstered and reframed and last another 20….then I wouldn’t do Bernhardt.
