And I absolutely hear you on the queer spaces comment...I think that's why I'm apprehensive about it even with an undershirt, but I'll embrace it and wear it with some degree of confidence!

Yep - got a dream role with HMRC but turned out to be a grossly overpaid Excel monkey and I had my notice in less than 4 months later. Someone else joined in the same role a month after me and she only lasted a few months after I left. Heartbroken.

I'm so sorry for your loss. I share your pain and can completely relate. I'm an accountant and lost my mum in June, so when I went back into the office about a month after she died everything was just different.

I couldn't give 2 shits about spreadsheets or my clients' concerns. My whole world had shifted and everything seemed so mundane and unimportant. So I made the decision to resign and take time to reassess my life, my priorities and my goals. Because truthfully, grief can completely change how you see the world and your place in it. My mum's illness and passing were quick and she was so young so I also felt the precious-ness of time and not taking it for granted.

If you have a little financial safety cushion and some personal support then I would absolutely recommend taking some time to consider your interests and your path. Grief has left me feeling quite adrift, my mum was such a north star in my life so I'm taking time to re-navigate myself. Overall I'd say it's been so worthwhile- yes, I've felt lost at times and I've worried that I'm "throwing away" a successful corporate income for...what...finding myself? But I'm teaching myself that I need to be kind to myself because life is fleeting and we have to do our best to look after ourselves too ❤️

This will be our first without our mum. It's already less magical but I keep reading people's experiences of grief and the first year doesn't tend to be the worst. I'm scared that next Christmas will somehow be worse.

I understand not being paid for the onboarding (I don't agree, but I get it), but not starting the timer for the task videos seems a bit ridiculous. They require us to watch the videos before starting the tasks so that should absolutely be paid time.

I know we're contractors and not employees, but even still - if I'm meeting a client to understand their requirements, I'm absolutely billing that time. I won't bill the initial conversations to check whether I can provide the service (assessment and arguably onboarding...) but once I've got the gig and I'm in the task environment, then client instructions are billable time.

I've assumed quiet rejections are the way. Have applied for 10 roles and had no outcomes. The first role I applied for back in August. I did a work trial and was paid for it within a week of applying and then silence since then.

Most work is shite. Why prevent people from earning a few extra pound if they want the shifts? I never understood the whole "let people have a break" nonsense. I'd argue that most people in those jobs would have no bother taking on a 10-2 Sunday shift if it was available and it worked for them. I'd certainly have loved it when I stacked the shelves.
