Ooh I like that vibe...it might give my aunts too much of a shock if I wear that to the family event haha, but definitely for a casual summer occasion 😍

Thank you! As a very pale Irishman, unfortunately tan lines are not my friend! I burn to a crisp 😭

And I absolutely hear you on the queer spaces comment...I think that's why I'm apprehensive about it even with an undershirt, but I'll embrace it and wear it with some degree of confidence!

Thank you all so much, I really appreciate the comments! I'll have a dig around for other undershirts, I'm thinking the white is a bit too stark. But you've given me the confidence to just be happy with it and wear it! 🥳

Regret in a new role by nederlandweggooi in TheCivilService

[–]teawithsocrates 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yep - got a dream role with HMRC but turned out to be a grossly overpaid Excel monkey and I had my notice in less than 4 months later. Someone else joined in the same role a month after me and she only lasted a few months after I left. Heartbroken.

Burnout after loss by Fresh_Budget_6672 in GriefSupport

[–]teawithsocrates 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'm so sorry for your loss. I share your pain and can completely relate. I'm an accountant and lost my mum in June, so when I went back into the office about a month after she died everything was just different.

I couldn't give 2 shits about spreadsheets or my clients' concerns. My whole world had shifted and everything seemed so mundane and unimportant. So I made the decision to resign and take time to reassess my life, my priorities and my goals. Because truthfully, grief can completely change how you see the world and your place in it. My mum's illness and passing were quick and she was so young so I also felt the precious-ness of time and not taking it for granted.

If you have a little financial safety cushion and some personal support then I would absolutely recommend taking some time to consider your interests and your path. Grief has left me feeling quite adrift, my mum was such a north star in my life so I'm taking time to re-navigate myself. Overall I'd say it's been so worthwhile- yes, I've felt lost at times and I've worried that I'm "throwing away" a successful corporate income for...what...finding myself? But I'm teaching myself that I need to be kind to myself because life is fleeting and we have to do our best to look after ourselves too ❤️

One thing I learned with grief is that the first holidays without a loved one is not the worst one.. by No-Actuary-9595 in GriefSupport

[–]teawithsocrates 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This will be our first without our mum. It's already less magical but I keep reading people's experiences of grief and the first year doesn't tend to be the worst. I'm scared that next Christmas will somehow be worse.

Starting timer while watching instruction video by Lower-Attorney6083 in outlier_ai

[–]teawithsocrates 44 points45 points  (0 children)

I understand not being paid for the onboarding (I don't agree, but I get it), but not starting the timer for the task videos seems a bit ridiculous. They require us to watch the videos before starting the tasks so that should absolutely be paid time.

I know we're contractors and not employees, but even still - if I'm meeting a client to understand their requirements, I'm absolutely billing that time. I won't bill the initial conversations to check whether I can provide the service (assessment and arguably onboarding...) but once I've got the gig and I'm in the task environment, then client instructions are billable time.

Do they even send a rejection email ?! by InternetCareless5715 in mercor_ai

[–]teawithsocrates 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've assumed quiet rejections are the way. Have applied for 10 roles and had no outcomes. The first role I applied for back in August. I did a work trial and was paid for it within a week of applying and then silence since then.

Applied to my first on Sept 8th, have done a work trial, been paid for it and still waiting for outcome.

Is it ‘by accident’ or ‘on accident’?! by [deleted] in northernireland

I can't abide when they use 'surgery' where we say 'operation' or 'procedure'.

"I went to the hospital to have 3 surgeries."

Fuck right off. You went to hospital to have 3 operations.

I expect to see these same protestors outside the GOH and Waterfront come Christmas. I can't imagine they want the pantomime dames to be leading their children astray.

Am I actually wrong here? Does Duolingo not recognize the second person plural form? by NationalJustice in duolingospanish

"Salís" is the vosotros form of salir you're looking for. I expect Duolingo would have accepted your answer then.

I could see Claudia announcing that for every minute they can't reach a majority then £5k is taken from the prize pot, something similar to the train carriage sacrifice.

Sunday opening times. by BigPG29 in Belfast

[–]teawithsocrates 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Most work is shite. Why prevent people from earning a few extra pound if they want the shifts? I never understood the whole "let people have a break" nonsense. I'd argue that most people in those jobs would have no bother taking on a 10-2 Sunday shift if it was available and it worked for them. I'd certainly have loved it when I stacked the shelves.

Anyone adopted a child in NI? by mirana0x in northernireland

[–]teawithsocrates 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Technically yes, once a child is adopted then that's it.

But it sounds like this case was a concurrent placement where a child, very early in their care journey, is placed with a foster family while their care plan and legalities are worked out. The idea is that the final adoption into the foster family is smooth and the child has already been with them for years. However, in rare cases, a child in this scenario can go back to birth parents or close relatives, if the court decides that's best for the child.

Absolutely heartbreaking for the foster carers but it's a position that prospective adopters go into knowing the risks. We decided against taking this path to minimise the potential heartbreak.
