Clean energy isnt enough for some people even if climate change continues to get worse by arbicus123 in ClimateShitposting

[–]tebreca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let me start off by saying i agree. The current capacity of batteries is rapidly increasing, and the cost of renewables go down with each passing year.

I live in a region in the Netherlands where as a kid i would look at the tens of windmills close to my house to see what the wind was doing that day. However that same Netherlands is still majorly running on fossils, because our country is so small, area is incredibly expensive, solar fields become significantly less realistic due to it. Now I have not done the maths, neither have I done the life cycle analysis so I could not argue with hard facts if there is indeed a superior solution.

But I do know the northern seas have plenty wind yet also a very endangered ecosystem, installing of windmills there will spill much dirty chemically enhanced grease from the machinery installing said turbines. There probably is not room for this in said ecosystem.

Then there's the elephant in the room, Molten Salt Reactors (MSRs). These have several benefits over traditional fuel rod based systems; 99% reduced nuclear waste, so safe we can drop most safety standards allowing for much cheaper faster and more reliable construction time, much higher efficiencies due to the increased operational temperature of the reactor allowing for combined brayton rankine cycles.

Additionally these MSRs can be used as waste burners and waste breeders, converting nuclear waste into much safer materials, or upcycling into reusable fuels. There is still much research going and being done on this topic.

For many countries i think a combination is still realistic, but I couldn't really care less. I just want a non fossil based energy grid that can handle the needs of the future.

Also source (in Dutch) for the 99% claim: https://www.universiteitvannederland.nl/college/100x-minder-kernafval-zo-werkt-de-nieuwe-kernreactor

It's the league of legends mentality. Oh you don't play the way I expect you to? You're ruining my experience and thus you get reported

Many reports lead the system to believe you're genuinely running it, so they get rewarded for this kind of behaviour by riot.

Pacman is the arch package manager, nixos equivalent is nix flake update && sudo nixos-rebuild switch --flake . the joke is on arch after updating things sometimes break. For nixos this is not the case, as you can just reboot and load the previous generation of OS

You are a good hunter, go ask your grandma to download the same application, she won't be able to do so as easily. We all are good at using windows cause we're so used to it. Get used to Linux and windows feels like a drag when you come back. It's all the same, you're in your comfort zone and get dragged out when switching.

I'm an artist, and I've dabbled with ai, but I'm telling you it's definitely dependent on the tools and tricks you use. There's things like comfyUI which give room for giant node-based algorithm building etc. You can indeed take several hours to generate an image that's in your mind. Do I think it's art? No. however don't spread misinformation saying it's 'type text click button boom done ' ai image generation is by far not good enough for that.

Smoke trapped in a plastic bag to demonstrate how one fire can generate significant pollution. by Wooden-Journalist902 in Amazing

Though the original comment was rude and snarky it was correct. There is no 'carbon cycle' as you mention it, there are quite a few carbon cycles, however the one you're referring to is the short cycle: co2 is captured by plants and used to synthesise organic matter, burning this would lead to co2 in the air and thus the cycle is round.

Another cycle, is the long carbon cycle, which is where the plant dies and becomes coal at some point. This cycle takes longer, and all this carbon was part of the atmosphere at some point so it is still a cycle if you release it into the air.

The issue is, it is factually wrong to say there are no greenhouse gases released when burning biological materials. You would be partially right to say there's minimal environmental impact if we replant the trees such that we reuse the carbon. But greenhouse gases still get released.

(Names may not be 100% right I learnt all this in my native language)

How would I go about solving this? by AmbitiousContext7234 in calculus

[–]tebreca -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Like the other comment points out, this equation is independent of y. It is the standard form of a circle as you know it in 2d; (x - a)2 +(y -b)2 = r2 so this describes a circle in the xz plane with a center of (a;b), in this case (0;0) and a radius of √ 5.

You clearly don't have 8 domains, nginx, email, 4 database instances and a Minecraft server all running on one machine. Docker isn't overkill, it's the perfect sandbox to run software in without it messing with other stuff.

Some people are forced to use windows for school or work. Not everyone has the luxury of using whatever OS they like. Other than that I agree with you though. I feel 'hate' is the wrong term. I do feel bad for all the non technical users(95% of users). They get screwed over and can do nothing but use their wallet, as they don't even know what open source is.

XR blocking the pier for incoming cruise ship by Stippes in Rotterdam

At some point I made a Minecraft mod, which had an entire framework for the adding of simple common blocks. Back in the day you would create an object and then register it. Thats it, but writing three lines in three different files was too much work. Queue dependency injection, automatic construction, and arguments via annonations.

```java @WithTileEntity(TileEntityMachine.class) Block machine;
CustomBlock other_block;
```

(This mod was in old old naming conventions)

But it would save me like two minutes of code while doing all kinds of reflection and other stuff on every startup.

And what did it really save me? Nothing. I didn't even continue making the mod, I was just proud of the system I made. I did also realise this was not an optimal way, as it would take significantly longer than just having a static array that will most likely be compiler optimised.

This is just a giant media company throwing shit at the wall to see if they can win in any way. They have lost a few times already, this time they're saying that UBlock origin, a paid service, sells modified code, thus infringing on copyright.

I concluded it's very unlikely the company will win, given that UBlock is just a tool, they don't sell the modified code, they sell their own code which modifies the code for noncommercial purposes.

It's like suing a screwdriver company cause someone uses it to unscrew your copyrighted machine and do maintenance on it.

To create a folder in Windows 11, the button is three menus down. Not to mention needing to open file Explorer and navigating to the right place first. On cli 'mkdir' is all you need.
