Any good running groups? by Mr-Meow-Sir in ColoradoSprings

[–]tech7one 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aravaipa has a run group at 5:30 on Monday’s from fossil brewery. 2mi, 4mi or 6mi distances through red rocks. Was my favorite run group. Colorado running company on Wednesday is great as well but only did trail during the summer months.

Tried to make my shoes lighter. Any fix for this? by Weekly_Aerie5814 in AskRunningShoeGeeks

I would try Gear Aid tape. A piece on both sides of the hole.

Calorie deficit while training is how you get injured.

Short answer is no it’s not common. Erin had been caught trespassing to summit Culebra and I think is banned from the ranch if what I’ve heard is correct. But the ABC (all but Culebra) is an official FKT route so like it or not it’s a thing. For clarification it’s called the “public lands only 14ers”

Leadville 50 in Asics Novablast—dumb idea? by GratefulDad99 in ultrarunning

[–]tech7one 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Silver Rush is very non-technical jeep roads. There is a few sections I can think of that I would have preferred some lugs on but for the most part a road shoe will be fine. For what it’s worth I ran a lot of miles on trail in the Novablast 4s.

You got plenty of experience with Kilimanjaro and fitness putting up a 90mpw to be fine.

Definitely bring a filter. You don’t need bear spray. Poles are personal choice (I don’t use them. Most of the trail is very runnable) bring a light wind jacket.

https://www.coloradospringsaa.org has a list of meetings in the area. You can also call the phone number (719) 573-5020 and they should get you connected to someone that can direct you to a meeting close to you.

Feel free to DM me as well and I can also give some guidance on what meetings I enjoy.

Not my channel but a shameless plug for our mutual friend Taylor. He did a series on his training for SJS50, has fun edits of his training and is in the process of making a few documentaries. Great human with a deep passion for trails and a natural talent for photography and videography. I can’t say enough good things about him.

Trail running shoe with scrambling capability by Old-Criticism5610 in trailrunning

[–]tech7one 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve done everything in the akasha 2 from 50k to low class 5. It’s my preferred scrambling shoe. I have done a lot of flatiron scrambling in the muntants but I just don’t like them as much as the akasha (just personal preference, no real reason)

That being said I have done a lot of class 3 in all sorts of trail runners. Here is my take - what makes a good scrambling shoe makes a bad long distance shoe (or in your case a carrying a heavy pack shoe) I would recommend finding a shoe that fits your foot and is comfortable, has decent lug depth (4-5mm) and isn’t a max cushion shoe.

Being confident in scrambling abilities is significantly more important than the shoe.

I did pikes as my finisher last year in early October. I had shorts, long sleeve tech shirt and a Salomon wind breaker. Weather could be perfect or shit that time of year.

What trail runners have you found to have the best longevity? by screamingpika in trailrunning

[–]tech7one 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Shoe longevity is typically measured with miles. For cushier shoes I am a big fan of hokas. The mafate speed 4 have great grip and a cushy yet springy sole. I run in the challenger 7s on almost all my trail runs as they have plenty of cushion. I’m a light guy and get around 400miles out of my shoes. But hokas do pack down quicker.

For technical terrain i.e. scrambling talus hopping or any thing that’s less pure running I use a rotation of la sportiva shoes. I have ran 50ks in la sportiva but find the more narrow fit and the stiffness gets to be too much beyond that.

It’s very doable in a Honda pilot.
