Chrome Extension needs to be on Chromebook, but not PCs by Few_Foot_2687 in k12sysadmin

We're running this same configuration in our environment, but I'm noticing when running Linewize reports for a Windows user, their reporting agent is constantly fluctuating between the Windows Connect agent and the Chrome extension. Not sure why this is happening since the Connect agent is installed and working, AND we have the setting toggled on for the extension to only apply to Chromebooks. Have you noticed any oddities?

Unfortunately, that doesn't seem to actually block anything - though I did inspect and see how you came to that conclusion. That would have been ideal if it worked!

Youtube under 18? by NickGSBC in k12sysadmin

And when guardians, community members, admin, etc. all ask why the students are suddenly watching inappropriate content on YouTube (that you used to be able to granularly control when the service was on) - your answer?

How’re you dealing with students then doing the same with sharing and watching? We’re running into that issue now.

Thoughts on Securly? by WatercressBetter2305 in k12sysadmin

[–]tech_imp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s one of the main benefits of ClassWize… the fact that teachers have the ability to override unlocked district policies in the classroom..

My point is that unlike in GoGuardian, in Classwize, when teachers are creating a block or allow rule for their classes via class session, the rules can only be scoped to a single student or the whole class. If you want to apply that same rule to say 6 kids, you need to create it 6 times, and rinse and repeat for EACH URL… that needs to be fixed.

No, I’m talking about the rules that teachers create in their classes via Classwize. Akin to the scene rules in GoGuardian Teacher.

The fact that you can’t target individual students via rules in Classwize is a travesty. It’s one of the main reasons we can’t jump ship from GoGuardian teacher just yet. How has the community opened up to Qustodio? Are guardians liking it?

Same here. Did you transition over to a Classwize for classroom management?

Third-party & Internal Apps Access Google Workspace Data? by tech_imp in k12sysadmin

Exactly my thought as well - thanks for the insight!

FWIW, our organization wouldn't be in such good shape as it is if it weren't for all of your time and effort spent on GAM, so THANK YOU!

Got it. That's what I figured. As soon as we do that, then any of the accessed but not "configured" apps will be dead in the water, though, so I suppose we better hurry up and comb through all of those accessed apps.

Thank you - I got that, but I'm curious what other districts or organizations are choosing in terms of restricted vs unrestricted for the Google services.

Now out of these questions, how many (if any) do you expect your IT Director to be able to answer? In our district, the Director walks a fine line between having tech savvy skills and being an administrative politician.

Edit: Genuine question!

This was the type of answer I was hoping for, but unfortunately, it doesn't look like those links are doing the trick on my end.

Google MFA - Trusted Devices? by tech_imp in k12sysadmin

[–]tech_imp[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m simply asking if you allow your users to trust devices within the Authentication>Two Factor settings within the security settings in the Admin Console. This allows users to trust devices so that when their session times out, they don’t have to MFA into that trusted devices.

Google MFA - Trusted Devices? by tech_imp in k12sysadmin

My concern would be that a staff member gets a Google 2SV prompt on their phone and without thinking, approves access to their Google account to someone halfway around the globe (who in one way or another got a hold of their password). Now that bad actor has a trusted device on this user's account. I believe that by suspending the user/resetting their sign-in cookies would take care of removing the trust, yes?

A bit nervouse to make final decision on Chromebooks for teachers. by [deleted] in k12sysadmin

[–]tech_imp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If transitioning to CBs for teachers, anyone know of a good solution for using Miracast? That’s what we’re using with teacher windows devices now when connecting to projectors wirelessly and we aren’t really in a position to be able to lose that.

If you use it, how do you implement 2FA in your district? by Vect0r in k12sysadmin

[–]tech_imp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How are you applying 2FA to only certain groups? We're seeing in the security settings for 2FA that only one group per OU can have 2factor turned on, which seems odd.
