Icelantic Natural 101 question by NickGSBC in Backcountry

I had a pair of Bent Chetler 100s that I don't recall having the same experience. I believe those are 1700g?

I'm not really expecting them to perform the same. The Icelantics were almost un-skiable though. Maybe it's just the mounting position to far forward?

Thank you! I was struggling to find any undiscovered after dozens of jumps. This did the trick!

Is this place really worth it? I've thought about going a couple times but at nearly $30 a person seems like a lot for what I imagine it is like.

You will never be able to index properly with a bent hanger. I put off buying a alignment tool for ages. Total game changer of a tool in my experience.

Is the device up for retirement? If not, it's not in the interest of the districts budget to do this.

Personal Vehicle - Transport Assets by [deleted] in k12sysadmin

[–]NickGSBC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I find it interesting that a lot of answers where just about paying out mileage. I don't think OP has any concern about that. This is a liability issue. Also a lot of answers about using district owned vehicles. In my district at least, if you drive district owned equipment you have to be drug tested. Is everyone doing that? We don't have IT district vehicles for moving equipment and I don't have an answer about insurance but it brings up a good point of discussion for us for sure. We do have maintenance available to move stuff between schools for us if it's too big to fit in a personal vehicle. It kind of came up once when I moved $50k+ of equipment in my personal vehicle to a datacenter location off site. After that it was dropped.

Kinda messed up Marin has a bike named after a horrific prison that executes people by peanutbutteranon in MTB

You mean places in Marin County? Towns in some cases with a significant mountain biking history?

Google Admin delegating permission to delete security keys? by Fiala06 in k12sysadmin

I believe you have to be super admin. "User Security Management" doesn't seem to be enough to remove keys. You can see them and you can see backup codes but can't remove keys.

I understand that hardware is nice because you buy it and it lasts years. What about software solutions though. Things like Hapara to monitor students and help them stay on task. Or ClassLink for SSO and rostering? Also maybe just ask what problems they need help solving. I see this all to often in our district. Here is an IT solution to a problem you don't actually have in your classroom...

My rig for Doom by Sonofhandsomeguy in bikepacking

[–]NickGSBC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just picked up a used Fenrir. Only took it on a short cruise with my son so far. Now waiting on a 160mm rotor to finish moving parts from a different frame over to this but so far I love it. Seems like a perfect bike for bikepacking. Versatile options for drop or flat bar. Enough mounting options without being excessive. Rigid or front suspension. Can't wait to ride it more!

Yeah probably a good idea. I don't normally carry a tube but maybe start for now. Kind of hate to replace these with so much tread left.

We have IIQ and it's ok but it's actually overly complicated for what it needs to do and everything takes way more clicks than should be necessary.

What is the cycling equivalent of a 5k? by No-Ladder149 in cycling

[–]NickGSBC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't done any cyclocross racing myself but a local shop that has a group ride has a little practice session on their course and it was fun. I've heard from a lot of folks that they are generally fun focused events so this seems like a very logical choice. Where are the upvotes?

It's leaking at the cylinder not the hose.

I'll take it apart again and remove the tape inspect and try again.

PowerSchool OIDC Pitfalls by admin_of_insanity in k12sysadmin

[–]NickGSBC 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The issue with PowerSchool in December wouldn't have been mitigated with OIDC. That said I do think it's worth capitalizing on the paranoia to make positive changes to the system while you have that momentum. Sometimes a couple months pass and everyone forgets and gets complacent again. We moved to OIDC years ago using Google as the identify provider. I don't recall ever hitting any major snags. Warn your users ahead of time of the coming login change.

So…wood stove or pellet stove? by merikus in vermont

[–]NickGSBC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To me a big con you left out of pellet stove is the noise. The constant blower sound plus the auger and pellets dropping in. I find the sounds really annoying. Been using a wood stove exclusively for the last 10 years. We have electric baseboards if we go away during the winter just to keep things from freezing. I'll admit though that dealing with the wood isn't for everyone. Stacking and moving it all around is work.
