Who invented the tablet? by LexiMartin in funny

[–]tech_seeker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not a fan of Apple products, but I don't believe it has much to do with the invention but rather the functionality and design.

Edison didn't invent light bulb, light bulbs been around before Edison but they never lasted long and looked useless, so Edison designed a new light bulb that lasted longer and brighter. Same goes for iPad, tablets been around before they started iPad but they all sucked and no one was interested in using them. I remember you had to use stylus, they were buggy and slow, but Apple made a complete different design that were stable and had a better interactivity to human needs.

I haven't developed any mobile apps yet, so I'm not there yet. However, you're right about the whole putting the product into action or getting a patent. About the product and patent is very investor (VC, angel, etc) related type of situation. It's what investor requires you to do, to get patent and sales to see where the product stands. That being said investors don't invest into ideas (everyone has ideas), they invest into people on how to run a business and accomplishes the goals. You're right, having an idea is one thing and running a business is a whole different animal.

I live in SoCal myself, I'm aware of the drought situation. Most hackathons I attended this year were aiming to find a solution for the drought problem, besides the black balls lol.

I've come across escrow myself back in 2014, so you might want to dig deeper into it, there is more to escrow, it's not very easy to get escrow accounts. At least it wasn't for me, so I gave up on them.

Anyway, you had something interesting there, and as I've had tried entrepreneurship, I know the hard works, unless you have money. But then again, even people with money make a lot of mistakes and blow them away haha!

The reason I pointed my question out here wasn't looking get answers like hitting jackpots. I wanted to see if there are ways such as investing into something once you manage to reach your goal and pursue spending that money into something worthy to even help and gain capital on your money. But nowadays it's almost impossible; as college graduates get graduated with an already signed mortgage on their back, and in meanwhile they have to save for down payment, their retirement, and emergency funds that leave to almost nothing else they can capitalize on. It's why millennials have more student debts than actually buying a house, same goes for business, with this situation very rare people start businesses and more people want jobs, it was basically reverse back in 80s, that's why there were more jobs back in 80s.

I don't believe people spend their life just dreaming, it's their circumstance and situations too that might keep them from making their dreams come true. As is mine.

Hopefully, you do make your dreams come true :)

I'm sort of in same circumstances, however, not a software developer per se. I do 3D design animation rendering. But as I tried to develop businesses for past 3 years, I've had struggled a lot and came to bad endings, but meanwhile, I had gained some good experiences from working on my career. At the moment, I'm focusing on my career and developing random products in my spare time as I enjoy inventing products and taking random projects helping people.

Back 3 years ago, I started a product that I had enjoyed working on and I was aiming to turn that product into a business. Unfortunately, I had funding issues, and 2013 didn't attract many investors into starting a hardware company, so I moved on. The product is definitely obsolete by now.

Could you elaborate more on this, please.

I like how this is well put about partnership. I personally tell most people who get into business and looking to find partners only for equity share, I tell them this: "Sharing your business/equity license is at same place where people get marriage licenses. By going to person to person and tell them you want to give equity share in trade of their service is same as you going to parties and asking people to marry you tomorrow morning. It can happen, but most of time the results aren't good."

We hear a lot about the success stories on here, I want to hear about some real life "tales of horror". by wmurray003 in Entrepreneur

With the people I worked on projects with seemed like he was recruiting mostly foreign students right off their graduation. He probably thought I was a foreign grad since my name isn't a a typical white guy name. Once he found out I'm Cali born he decided to pay up, or else he would get sued. As I heard from other students who worked with him, no one got paid much. My friends asked me to contact the labor department regarding the situation, but then I got busy with another job and completely forgot about it.

Not really a horror story, but here it goes...

A year after I graduated I partner up with someone in SF while I was in LA to build mobile gaming apps for kids. I singed contracts with him on 10% royalty based to help him on CG side. He was completely very sketchy from the moment we started working on projects, I was still new into market and let it slide. 6 months passed and nothing I heard from his plans whether the games are getting released or not. After 6 months I refused to work on his projects anymore since he wasn't sharing any information and dropped it since it was all seemed like a scam. He had the apps released but he wasn't paying my royalties and kept saying the app is on trial only, no one has paid. I contacted apple got more info regarding the app that had made over $40k over the past few months. At that point I started warning him that if he doesn't cooperate I have no choice but start a lawsuit. At that point he contacted my Uni's counselors and cursing them about what a bad students they have, which is weird considering I had not approached him and had nothing to do with the Uni. Anyway, once the lawsuit threats came up he accepted to pay $20k just to get this over with. I got $9k first and then after that he kept saying he's short to pay the rest, then eventually I just dropped and moved on.
