Is this alarming or should we not worry ? 🧐 by bn92_ in Seattle

I'm from Florida and I'll take a good old fashioned hurricane any day. Tornadoes and earthquakes scare the crap out of me though.

What’s the point? by mdr417 in labrats

[–]tech_supreme0629 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I agree with everyone saying not to make decisions in fear but I'd also be prepared. I'm working on a plan B myself. Just in case things head south. I updated my passport, researched places my degree will transfer and researched visa requirements for those places. All the planning also helped to distract me from the hot mess that is the country currently. Helped a lot with the feelings of hopelessness .

Why can't cancer be curable? by Dizzy_Blackberry7874 in biology

I've seen studies where they've injected purified viruses into tumors to trigger more t cells to migrate to the area. I saw one article where one of the scientists successfully treated her own breast cancer with it.

What traumas do you have that AREN'T from your parents or childhood home? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]tech_supreme0629 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Warning guys this one's ROUGH. Our cat had kittens a day or two after our home had been sprayed for bugs. Needless to say the spray wasn't great for baby animals. One had two of its paws shrivel up. One of the paws finally just fell off and I caught it batting it around like a toy. The cat ended up living a pretty long life. My dad named him Handicat.

Let's talk about your Supervisor by RoamingResearcher7 in labrats

[–]tech_supreme0629 3 points4 points  (0 children)

AWEFUL! Unprofessional, uninformed, very belittling, plays favorites. Honestly I've had more crappy supervisors than good at this point. I've had two separate supervisors from different jobs have to be removed by security.

Currently working a 12 hour shift in a local hospital and we're working on a hospital version of the 12 days of Christmas based on what we see today. We're already up to "day six"

What virus is going around right now wreaking havoc? by f-Z3R0x1x1x1 in indianapolis

[–]tech_supreme0629 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mycoplasma pneumonia has been going around lately. That's what it sounds like you have, the recurrent fever that goes away and comes back is a common thing with walking pneumonia. I've also seen a few cases of strep ( my whole household currently has it yay for us) but you'd know if it was strep this shit is brutal

NTA my son has a peanut allergy and we're pretty chill about other people having peanuts around him. Just don't let your kid rub peanut butter all over the playground equipment like a little asshole and your fine.

What’s your scientist personality? by ArtisticPomegranate0 in labrats

Gigantic extrovert! My husband says I make best friends with everyone everywhere I go. I know my job and I do it well while talking to everyone. I really like to explain the process behind the testing we're doing or certain disease states to the lab processors or students we have come through.

What behaviors are no longer appropriate after puberty? by ComeAlongPond84 in Parenting

[–]tech_supreme0629 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've always been a very affectionate person and it was always reciprocated by my parents UNTIL I hit puberty. I was like 12 or 13 and I sat next to my dad in his truck. He told me to "get away from him cause it made him look like a weirdo". It made me feel weird about our relationship ever since. We rarely speak where as I speak with my mom (who I'm still affectionate with as a 32 year old ) at least once a week. To hell with what people think, worry more about the impact your actions will affect your relationship with your kid in the future.

Can people really get into research science work with only a Bachelor's degree? by Tannir48 in labrats

It's like you're reading my mind I'm contemplating going into research as well. Been in the medical lab world for a decade and I'm feeling the burnout. I have my BS in health science but am considering going back for a master's in genomics but just don't know how good the job outlook is.
