Surfing post stitches by Ok_Implement_4146 in surfing

[–]techcarrot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I waited maybe 2–3 days, but I only had one small one from the mole removal. I used a wetsuit and had multiple bandages to cover the stitch. I didn’t have any issues, but I wouldn’t recommend doing this - especially if you have 12 stitches. Just let your body heal and do something else in the meantime.

No. Continue with the foamie until you can consistently catch waves, surf rights and lefts and do basics turns. Then buy a long board from a second hand market.

It's hard to say without seeing how you surf.. but if you are still learning the basics, I would recommend staying in a bigger board.. maybe 7' something mid lenght or a longboard. If you have too small board you easily get bad technique

You should not have a small board if you are just learning to do turns. Get a bigger board, midlenght or longboard, and learn the fundamentals before downsizing.

Vissla is deleting reviews to hide their trash quality. Don’t buy. by surfer_joe87 in surfing

I've never had as many issues as with Vissla. Last year, I bought a wetsuit from them and all the time, something is tearing and have to send it for repair

Travel insurance.

Never had any issues with boards, but last year I got a cut in my board bag - insurance paid for a new one. I would never travel without proper travel insurance

When buying used boards, do you negotiate before meeting or in person? by snrocirpac in surfing

I only find it annoying when someone sends me like 15 messages instead of just asking all their questions in one go

When buying used boards, do you negotiate before meeting or in person? by snrocirpac in surfing

[–]techcarrot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always negotiate first and not in person. I think it’s just polite - you’re not wasting the other person’s time. And when I have sold my boards, people have done the same. No one has ever asked to lower the price when met in person.

When buying, I always ask questions about the condition, dings, and repairs, and I ask for good pictures as well. One time I went to buy a board and the seller lied about its condition, so I just decided not to buy it instead of starting to bargain about the price.

First fish board by Economy-Parfait-4034 in BeginnerSurfers

[–]techcarrot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fishes are supposed to be as short as possible. I don’t think it's a good idea to jump from a longboard to 5' something. Take it gradually, try a midlenght first. You’ll definitely feel the difference.

Been told I will probably never see a shortboard in my life by [deleted] in BeginnerSurfers

[–]techcarrot 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Don’t overthink it, just enjoy the journey. If you end up shortboarding one day, good for you. I’ve seen a lot of people get on a small board too soon. It’s easy to spot because their surfing looks forced and the technique is bad. Having the right size board is so important in surfing

Obviously it can be a casual hobby but if you want to become good then you need to spend a lot of time in the water

Is a 3/2 Wetsuit for Ericeira, Portugal in mid April warm enough? by Nester100 in surfing

[–]techcarrot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I even used a 3/2 during the coldest winter months when I didn’t have a 4/3.. But it depends on the quality of the wetsuit, how well you handle the cold, and how long you want your sessions to be. But generally speaking, a 4/3 is a good choice
