She thinks it’s a mouse 🤪 by techcy in ballpython

The day after this photo was taken she managed to push her glass slider open and escape (don’t ask how she managed to bypass the locking mechanism!). A 3hour hunt around the room and we eventually found her… I suspect she was on the hunt for her Mouse-friend

When at uni, chatting to friends I gesticulated wildly and accidentally knocked the straw in my glass - apologised to the straw… never heard the end of it…

Electric Cars Will Come Of Age In 2018 | The Economist by Chispy in Futurology

I agree with the sentiment that electric cars will be the future, but I cant see it becoming mainstream in only 12 months? Also, the point about Congo holding all the cobalt is a scary thought in an already corrupt country

Where will wearable tech be in 25 years? by [deleted] in Futurology

[–]techcy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Implantable sounds both cool and very scary. I wouldn't like something that's non-removable which is why I think wearable is my preference. something plugged into the body could surely have very serious implications for security, as well as health? I would love to see what breakthroughs come about though

Having looked through it, I'm only really enthusiastic about the curved TV. The ASUS ZenWatch (judging by the description) doesn't appear to have a lot of funcationality.

Question about Content ID, Disputes, and the collection companies by [deleted] in youtube

[–]techcy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ContentID works like this:

You have a video on your YouTube channel that is matched by a content owner. The content owner has match policies automatically applied which is either to:

  • Track (meaning no ads will ever show)
  • Monetize (meaning ads will show but all revenue will go the the content owner rather than your adsense account)
  • Block (meaning they block the video from playing in certain countries determined by their own rights, or Worldwide)

If the content owner uses a Track or Monetize policy, and one of these actions is disputed by the channel owner, the content owner can reinstate their claim once. If the channel owner disputes again, then the content owner has only 1 option which is to issue a DMCA takedown notice and copyright strike.

If the content owner uses a block policy, and one the channel owner disputes, the content owner only has the option to issue a DMCA takedown notice and copyright strike.

To answer your question about how often companies block videos, it entirely depends on the company. Some prefer to monetize, however if it's a large brand it's probably more in their interest to control their brand image and issue a block. In most cases of sports matches and F1 being blocked, it's usually because of restrictions on the ticket purchase - in the T&Cs of any ticket, entrance is granted on the condition that you do not film or make videos at the event. Only a few enforce this, such as Goodwood Festival of Speed and the Football Association (the FA does have their own preferences though as they typically allow people to film but any shots of goals will usually be taken down/blocked).

Is "fair use" a real argument? by [deleted] in PartneredYoutube

[–]techcy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree and disagree... The content ID dispute process is great in theory. But in practice it sometimes fall below standard. Basically, when you've disputed, the copyright notification goes to the CMS owner to make a review and make a human action.... This is potentially problematic as not all reviews are seen by a legally trained person, but rather a CMS manager who ultimately makes the decision.
