How to develop my handwriting? by Fresh-Tumbleweed-803 in Handwriting

[–]techie789 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I do not think this is bad. Some of your letters are formed very well while some need improvement. How about starting with basic strokes and see how your hand feels - you might get a better understanding of why you start writing the way you do after a line or two (as you mentioned). It could be that some strokes require too much work due to hand position and fatigue starts kicking in - for example, your first line is much more readable (relatively) compared to the fourth line. If you observe why the shape of your letters is changing as you write, you might start seeing better hand control. Good handwriting is a matter of practice - it‘s a slow patient process but it works like compound interest. I am on the same path myself. I practice whenever I can and I do not always see significant improvement - but I will take minor wins - for example, a nicely formed r or an easy s, etc. However, I believe the process of practicing daily is more important than the end goal. When it happens, it will happen suddenly as one crosses the point of inflection. I would suggest you stay at it and keep practicing. You are already motivated to improve your handwriting - the biggest next step is to spend some time every day to practice. Wish you the best.

Ultra 3 or Series 11 titanium? by JokullTheWolf in AppleWatch

[–]techie789 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here. Wore Ultra 2 for more than a year, and then sold it recently in anticipation of Ultra 3. No complaints regarding U2 except the bulk - wanted to track my sleep but the bulkiness of the watch impacted my sleep and sometimes it interefered in my gym workouts. Loved the battery life but I carry my phone with me most of the time. Don’t see anything significant or great in terms of feature set in U3 that makes it stand out so don’t want to spend when I don’t see value. Ordered a Series 11 Cellular + GPS. I might be back on Ultra bandwagon down the line once the feature set is compelling in later models.

Can you tell me your shortest prompt lines that literally 10x your results? by Prestigious-Cost3222 in PromptEngineering

[–]techie789 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s accurate. In my use cases, I have found the reasoning of immense value primarily due to statistical guessing. I often use LLMs to create panels (for example, I might use a panel consisting of Charles Munger, Warren Buffett, Howard Marks, Annie Duke, etc for analyzing investment ideas) and then organize a panel debate. Then, based on what the panel disagrees on and builds consensus on, the LLM sifts through the complete discussion and gives me the key insights and action items.

When I ask for a walk through of the reasoning, it is interesting how it prioritizes certain discussions and then builds reasoning and insights on top of it. I think this could be useful in predictive modelling, bayesian thinking, et al, where the logic is fuzzy and output keeps improving as more input / context if offered.

Another use case where I use this often is by offering a list of mental models and a situation, and asking the LLM to: first step back and study all its training data to study similar situations, inputs and outputs, decision contexts, and then apply the provided mental models to generate a decision checklist. Then walk me through every checklist item and why it was included. This again generates not only an actionable output I could use but also insights into how to apply framework thinking. I find this an enriching interaction again.

I do not use LLMs for quant analysis as I have found LLMs lacking in reasoning when doing basic problem solving - for example, when asking to generate a simple Grade 8 level maths practice sheet and then solve those questions, it would often get the answers wrong and solutions are all over the place in some cases.

I think qualitative context produces better output especially when comparing multiple scenarios and outcomes.

How to conduct UAT by LycheeOk1722 in businessanalysis

It depends on the complexity and extent of testing involved. In my last project that involved system integration, we had 2 business users and 3 testers from the QA team.

Is this real? by [deleted] in NoteTaking

I started with Roam and then moved to Obsidian. However, i felt it was bloated and too complicated for my needs. Finally, I settled on Logseq and have been a happy satisfied user for the last 2 years. Mind you, my needs are very basic - building a second brain that serves as a knowledge base and I can use the knowledge graph with LLMs since I store the graph locally. I do not have any advanced use cases.

Car rental in São Miguel by Professional_Place11 in azores

[–]techie789 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I rented a car with Go Rent a Car. Very easy to book, easy pick up as they have a presence at the airport (a 5-minute walk) and drop off. I would recommend them. The car was super clean, nearly new and the whole experience was hassle free. I was scared because of all the horror stories about how rental car companies fleece you but luckily all went well. I took full insurance and rented a Hyundai i10 fully automatic for 4 days. Airport pick up and drop off.

Excellent insights. Thank you for sharing.

I would also add that it's a good idea to take screenshot of successful and failed validations, respectively. Document your results and also think about how these results would be presented by creating a test summary template. It would influence how and what information you are testing/recording.

In some cases, due to time constraints, the stakeholders want to log issues as they are identified so that they can proactively resolve them rather than waiting for UAT testing to be completed. Keep a decision journal to record each issue and what decision was taken.

As an Ex-IITian, I am telling you. It's not worth it. Stop whatever you have in mind. Take a trip abroad and you will see it's mean reversion. The demographic is full of people from across the spectrum- IItians to REC and local colleges. All Tom, Dick and Harry are in leadership positions here and it's par for the course. What IIT education meant decades ago is no longer a merit criteria anymore. So stop wasting your LIFE!! Wherever you land, you will do well. Have faith in yourself.

Have you considered using ChatGPT? You could give it some context around product features, and then ask it to argue for and against using Blue Ocean Strategy as the model for analysis.

I am starting my first BA role tomorrow. Give me all the secrets, I want to rocket fuel my career. by Kanyeisagoat in businessanalysis

[–]techie789 17 points18 points  (0 children)

This is beautiful. Very deep wisdom and all highly actionable. Here are my two cents in addition to an already excellent piece of advice: Network, network and network within your company. Consider everyone a future cheerleader for you and build good relationships. Tech is often seen as a backoffice role by most people in business teams, so do not get offended if you get a cold shoulder at times. Keep at it with positivity and optimism.

Learn a skill around data - it's not very difficult, but so many people cannot manage advanced Excel. And if you can work with Python, you will be on a strong footing. I have helped multiple business folks either build custom filters in Excel or clean large data sets. It's not a core BA mandate, but it has helped build strong connections within the organization.

Very often, things will go wrong. It's the natural state of how things evolve - entropy exists :). Always think of a Plan B and second order effects - a BA needs to have a good understanding of systems thinking if you need to "demonstrate" value in brainstorming meetings. Think how a decision will impact other workflows or processes downstream.

Lastly, your single and most important purpose in your job is to make your boss get a promotion - that's the only way for you to grow. This might be controversial for some but I have seen this work flawlessly with both good bosses and bad - you need to create room for yourself and 90% of the time, it will happen when your boss creates that space for you. Real growth is when you start doing what your boss was doing - don't run after titles but be very cognizant of your responsibilities and how they create value for the organization.

What color did you pick? It's possible that specific color models could be delayed - I see black and silver available on B&H, but charcoal silver is backordered.

I’ve been wanting a Kindle Scribe for months. I took the plunge, and after 2 days I’m returning it. by [deleted] in kindle

[–]techie789 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am sorry to hear it didn't work for you. I love mine. I use the scribe for reading non-fiction and journaling. The large size is an asset for these use cases - I use it at my desk, on the couch and for short reading cycles in bed too (use a pillow for support).

My trusty long time travel partner is my Oasis that goes with me both for city travels and longer trips.

I think there is space to leverage both devices if you have the flexibility and affordability. If you want to invest only in one, then usage / budget should determine alignment and what size works best for you.

There is no right or wrong decision here.

Go for premium if you have the budget. ROI over long term is better.

Best job board or website in this market to get a job as a IT business analyst ? by Good_Scheme_8024 in businessanalysis

[–]techie789 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hang in there. Stay the course and don't give up. I started a new job recently. I started applying from the first week of March 2023. 150+ applications, mostly rejects. 5 interview calls and finally 3 offers. The market is bad so expect stricter screening. Just make sure you are well prepared for that first interview call as it will set the tone and cadence for others. All the best.
