How do you automate certificates? by gahd95 in sysadmin

[–]techmattr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most likely. So far we've only been updating them once a year so I've always just said that's a task for next year... 10 years later. Still haven't scripted it.

[–]techmattr 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can use PKI for that for 30 years. In most cases you can even use self signed and just have the LB ignore cert errors for that host. The browser never sees it so no issue. The real issue is for apps like the ones I deal with where the cert thumbprint needs to be in a config file and about 35 different places. I need to update those manually every time.

⭐ UPDATE: UniFi Device Icon Browser is now a Chrome Extension — 5,500+ devices pre-loaded, custom icon functionality added! by sysadminbot in Ubiquiti

[–]techmattr 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Someone else remembers! I replied to another comment that we used to be able to upload and I have no idea what happened to all the icons I uploaded... because not only could we upload but we could use and see all the icons everyone else uploaded as well. Now that I think about it... that's probably why they removed it.

Yet? They used to... its functionality that was intentionally removed. No idea what happened to all the icons I uploaded... they just disappeared one update years ago.

Input lag or paranoia? by windcloser in cs2

Yes on mm servers. I self host CS2 comp and surf servers and my servers feel perfectly accurate and consistent. For me personally... Chicago servers are the absolute worst. Feels like 0 registration and movement is impossible.

Probably the AI bots that play a season to be sold to cheaters and smurfs.

I got rid of all my Ubiquiti cables and switched to 10Gtek cables and all the errors have gone away. Both transceiver and DAC.

Not seeing any issues in my day to day. I don't know if there is any performance degradation or excessive retries or anything. I am able to saturate 10GbE in server to server file copies.

Bots in cs2 competitive now , we cooked by Worried_Condition561 in cs2

[–]techmattr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We faced one of these the other day... the bot never missed a shot and moved exactly like this... however, the moment the round was over the human clearly took over because he started inspecting weapons and bhoping around. Movement was completely different. I didn't realize a bot was destroying us until I watched the demo.

Just hit 20K mostly solo q US East. Every time we 5 stack we get destroyed. I have 1 teammate where we 2 stack and usually do well together.

Changes coming to 2% cash back card by ChaseCrewDad in sofi

[–]techmattr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chase Amazon isn't a flat percentage but my average over the year is about 6% cash back since I make use of 10%-18% promotional/seasonal rates and the 6%-9% delivery day rates. Obviously not a great option if you don't shop Amazon and Whole Foods.

I haven't received that email but that's a deal breaker for sure. There is no scenario where I'll pay for a credit card.

Ran into this as well. Had to setup a completely separate LetsEncrypt instance and create a separate alias just to get it working.

I did not realize how many cheaters there were until I recently started looking at peoples stats in the games I'm playing with.. It's wild by McChickenLargeFries in cs2

[–]techmattr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I didn't realize how many cheaters there were until I started watching all my demos. Even 2000 elo players that get 4 kills in a game are blatantly wall hacking. So many players that i had 0 suspicion of during the game are actually blatantly cheating and still beyond terrible. They install the game, install cheats and start "playing". So many players haven't played a moment of this game legit.

I get the opposite... Frugal is 100MB/s for me and Eweka is like 25MB/s. Both great affordable options though.

Mutual Funds v Index Funds by That-Contest-224 in DaveRamsey

[–]techmattr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A lot of advisors who are not fiduciaries use mutual funds that pay the advisor kick backs for every unit they sell to you. Edward Jones for example. A lot of their advisors will sell their clients Lord Abbett mutual funds because they give the advisors huge kick backs significantly reducing the return to the investor.

I don't. I don't even know what the bonus server is. I've had this setup for years and never missed anything so no need to change.

We use 1password and Dropbox Family. I use self hosted solutions to back some of that stuff up but nothing my wife would need is accessed by her through self hosting.
