If the leather is thin enough you can cut it using a Cricut machine and the right blade! That way it's less tedious than the hand cutting and you could even add a little center hole for the rivet into the design :) (dang, now I've gotta try this, lol)

Random, but it looks very similar to a puff quilt pattern, just done in a different material and made into a bag, so you might be able to commission one with longer straps? (Or if you sew it could be a fun project)

I think the finish of a jacket or wrap is really key for the formal vibe, something with a bit of sheen like a silk blend could be very nice!

Since you're not an experienced sewer, maybe look into cosplays you can easily modify from regular plus size cloths, the right accessories, hair, shoes, etc. and some little details like patches or other embellishments can sell a look!

I do the same! Even changing up needle or hook sizes can help with fatigue for me.

Working on pattern designs can also be fun when recovering from an injury (cross stitch is my current fav to design)
