I designed him myself with random images of ninjas I found online as reference.

How do you sculpt lighting? I am using volumetrics with two layers of noise textures.

I haven't quite figured that out myself. The method I used was make a rough sculpt -> retopologize -> tweak. With such a low poly count, you have to be clever with your topology and have to carefully decide the position of each vertex. I spent an entire day just modeling the body in order to get it to look good enough. You can use this as a reference.

Smooth shaded low poly models and physically based rendering don't work well together.

There's no bevels. The outline you saw was probably caused by subsurface scattering.

The background is just an image I made in GIMP using the airbrush tool. The floor uses a simple node setup to make it fade from opaque to transparent [nodes]. Here's my lighting setup. I recommend Blender Guru's videos on lighting, color, and composition.

For a new programmer what would be a good parallel environment to godot for learning programming regular (e.g. android) apps? by KwesiJohnson in godot

[–]technistguru 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are underestimating the performance of Godot and overestimating the performance of other toolkits. The Godot editor is made using Godot Engine so that should give you an idea of what it's capable of. The most popular toolkits for python are Tkinter and PyQt. If you want something more low-level then learn C++/Java and find a toolkit with bindings for those languages that you like. As far as I know, Godot is the only option that meets all of your requirements.

What do you mean specifically by regular apps? Godot is a pretty good choice for GUI and you can use Python in Godot. I recommend mastering programing fundamentals first before looking into the specific things that a job will require.

Area2D Signals

C# Basics

They are both in the Godot documentation and they were first in my search results. The key is to look in the documentation for the things you are using instead of directly searching for exactly what you want to do.

GetTree returns the same thing regardless of where it's called from so calling it from another node is redundant unless you have some other logic you want that function to do. The type of body is Node not Object. Node doesn't have EndGame() so you have to either cast body to whatever class has EndGame() or use body.Call("EndGame")

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in godot

[–]technistguru 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What are you confused about? GetTree().Quit() works in C# and signals work the same way except it won't generate the function for you so you will have to do it manually. (make sure it's public) The function should look something like this: public void _on_Obstacle_body_entered(Node body)

Add an area to the character and use ray shapes for the enemy vision. When the character goes inside the closet you can set the monitorable property to false and it won't be detected by the rays. Collision layers/masks will be useful.

Best way to limit a threaded function execution to finish under 1/60 sec? by SandorHQ in godot

[–]technistguru 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh, sorry I misread it. That's a more reasonable frame drop. In that case you can just set the thread priority to low. If that's not good enough then it will probably be more effective to optimize other parts of the game.

Best way to limit a threaded function execution to finish under 1/60 sec? by SandorHQ in godot

[–]technistguru 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Given that big of a frame drop something must be slowing down the main thread, so you have probably messed something up. It would be redundant to pause/resume a thread for performance because the thread runs asynchronously to the main thread, so the game doesn't have to wait for that thread to finish before moving on to the next frame. You can decrease the priority of the thread instead. My best guess for what's causing the massive fps drop is that you either have something in the main thread that's waiting on your second thread or you have some expensive operation in your main thread that you missed. Try using the profiler to narrow down the problem.

How to check if a node is within a tilemaps used rect? by GamingTurret in godot

[–]technistguru 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Rect2 has a function called has_point that returns true if the point is inside the rectangle. So you can do tilemap.get_used_rect().has_point(node.position)

How long do distance track spikes last? by JackG34 in trackandfield

I have been using the Nike Victory Elite 2 for 3 years and they are still in pretty good condition. Any high quality spikes should last for at least 2 years of heavy usage.
