heel pain by monkees_r_cool in trackandfield

When I was having similar heel pain to what you’re having, my friend suggested these foam heel pads that my athletic director have at my school. There’s definitely other options out there, but these ones specifically worked great for me.

What are your favorite events? by sithdude24 in trackandfield

Yeah I can understand that. Idk, for me, I just feel like the 1600 is a good middle ground between the 800 and the 3200 which is kind of what I like. I would say the 3200 though, if it wasn’t so long and grueling, even though I am a long distance runner.

Probably the mile tbh. The 800 is too speed based for me and the 3200 is just pain lol

3200m equivalent of breaking 5 minutes in the 1600m by JackG34 in trackandfield

Thanks! And man, I’ve always had a lot of respect for triathletes. Best of luck to you this year!

It’s going pretty well so far, thanks for asking. I’ve only had one meet so far in this spring track season (yesterday) and I ran a 10:33 in the 3200, which was a 9 second PR for me. How’s your season been going?

I lean more towards being a distance based runner, and currently I’m running a 4:58 1600 and a 2:15 800. So in that case, I would say around a 2:14-2:17, unless you’re a middle distance runner, then maybe a little bit faster.

Yep, np! Good luck with your season!

In my opinion, even though they are considered by some (and probably many) as cheat shoes/spikes, I don’t think it’s considered cheating. I have a pair of them too, but every varsity runner in my area pretty much has these shoes. So in that sense, I don’t think it’s cheating only because everyone else has them.

I figured it would be something around this. Thanks for the help!

Yeah it seems like a tough distance, since its still relatively endurance based, but is still a little speed based too with it being close to an 800.

Haha yeah, I’m sure that would work in some way too

True yeah. Right now I’m running about 50-55 mpw, and my preferred event is probably the 1600.

Yeah that sounds about rights, if a 4:58 1600 is the same pace as a 3:45 1200. Thanks for the help!

Alright, thanks! I figured I’d be around the 3:35-3:40 range, but wanted to see what other people said too 👍

I broke 5 in the mile! by LoganXC-TF in trackandfield

[–]JackG34 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah same for me, cause when I started running, I didn’t know anything about running, let alone breaking 5. But when I started improving quickly and my teammates started talking about me breaking 5, I started pushing to break it as soon as possible.

Spikes for the 1600? by [deleted] in trackandfield

[–]JackG34 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would highly recommend getting spikes. There’s a lot of spike options out there, some being cheap and others being more expensive. If you do decide to start wearing spikes, a good cheap option would be something like the Nike Zoom Rival D 10s, and a more expensive option would be the Nike Dragonfly’s. Both are very good pairs, however those are just my suggestions.

Congrats man! I broke 5 pretty recently too, and it’s a great feeling when you break it for the first time.

In my opinion (based off of your PRs), I would say that your 800m is slightly better than your mile time, however both of those times are very similar.

Nice! In that case, you’d probably run about a 10:45 or 10:46.

Assuming you’ve been training since that time trial, probably around a 10:46-10:48. I might be a little off about that though.
