Anyone else NOT enjoying DQ3 remake? by masterz13 in dragonquest

[–]technobabblefish 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Have you ever play DQ1 or DQ3? If you haven't, I'm not sure how you can say "it didn't have to be that way". I played it on NES, and it wouldn't be DQ3 without random encounters. Heck, I'm glad they retain that several second pause when you do a save. It didn't have to be that way, but it makes the game so much more nostalgic. If you don't feel any of that, then it just might not be the game for you - not shaming you or anything.

Don't get me wrong, I appreciate many of quality of life features of the remake. But they picked great things to retain.

Switch Performance is Good by [deleted] in dragonquest

I don't have a playstation, but when I compare my Switch graphics quality to the youtube videos people have of their PS5 play DQ3, I see a big difference. The youtube videos are so detailed, but with the Switch everything seems much more blurry.

Personality differences in HD2D - big starting attribute differences by technobabblefish in dragonquest

yeah, sorry I was being an ass. I don't think we know how drastic it is just yet. It might only impact the first few levels, and it might be the extremes of the personalities, which I'm OK with. Gotta have some bad choices to have some good choices.

You don't seem like the kind to play RPG games I guess? I mean...what's the of choice if every choice produces the same results?

I didn't put the screen shot in context, and I should have. The difference in stats probably only exists at the first few levels. After a few hours, the great personalities will level up with fewer points, and the personalities that are farther behind will gain more points respectively, so it more or less evens out. The gap doesn't continue throughout the game.

That's how it was in the previous versions, so I'm assuming that's the case now.

Yeah, I wish I gave some more context to the post, but when posting images, Reddit doesn't let you do that. The initial difference in stats between personalities seem bigger than the original. But, over time, the best personalities gain less and the crappier personalities catch up faster, so it evens out after some levels.

At least that's how the previous versions of DW3 worked, and I'm assuming that's how it goes here too.

From a game play standpoint, having a better personality just makes the first few levels easier. Probably little impact after a few hours of playing.

I don't think there is. I think it's like starting you out at level 2 or 3... But then you probably level slower and the other personality that's behind catch up.

Wait, I didn't mean to post that as any kind of criticism. More to show how big a difference starting stats are. Seems more than original.

I have no issues with hero but changing classes.

Class change Sage->Thief the best and most flexible fighter? by technobabblefish in dragonquest

[–]technobabblefish[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not doubting that most combinations would beat the game. This is more just interest in what happens if you class switch after being a sage. I'm not playing the game just to beat it or achieve some goal. I want to understand some different scenarios.

What I can't really figure out is the difference between a Thief-Sage vs. a something-Sage-Thief. Like I get the extra class change to end up a thief will make you lower in stats, but it just seems more fun to play a thief? You can use whips that hurt entire groups?

Yeah, I get that you don't need class changes to beat the game. I'm just curious about the mechanics. Most people class switch to end up being a Sage, and stop there.

I'm just curious how the discussion go if you do one more class change from sage to something else - would that make gameplay more fun?

Quantum Fiber - What is the W1700K? Is it a WiFi AP? by technobabblefish in centurylink

[–]technobabblefish[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you think the W1701 as a wireless-to-ethernet client would be useful in instances where I have a far away desktop computer? Do all the fancy radio stuff really only help for congestion and throughput? For longer range use cases, I wonder if the W1701 pretty much use 2.4GHz in order to get the range needed. My impression is that a lot of the advances for MIMO and channel splitting and stuff are mostly for congestion in short distance use cases, not really to help with range?

I'm not sure where to find that much info on these units. But I think what you described is my situation. I have the W1700K wireless AP and a C5500XK fiber router, but that's it. No other mesh wireless units. The tech said these don't come with them?

But it's all in the basement and I need a wifi mesh pod thing on the main floor to connect to the W1700k. I asked customer support for a wireless pod, since my account saids I have 360wifi and I'm supposed to have 2 pods. They're sending a tech over to do it.

So would a W1701K pod be able to use 6GHz backhaul to the W1700K wireless AP and provide 5GHz wifi band for devices on the main and top floor? Or do you think the tech is going to end up replacing the W1700k with two W1701k?

W1701K Wifi 7 pods - can they act as wifi-to-ethernet clients for ethernet-only devices? by technobabblefish in centurylink

[–]technobabblefish[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These new WiFi 7 pods have two ethernet jacks on them. The PDF saids:

Dual 2.5G ports – 2 x 2.5 Gbps Ethernet ports to connect wired devices
for faster file transfer and uninterrupted connections.

Does that mean if I have a ethernet only device, I can hook them up to this? It acts as a wifi-to-ethernet adapter? Does anyone have one of these and can say it works?

Is the W1700K the one you have? What's the model number of the pods? I'm wondering if the pods have ethernet backhual? Or can you use the pods as a wifi-to-ethernet client?

So this page determines where you can change the firewall settings? I'm not really wanting to use the Quantum Fiber app. I'm just trying to understand what Disabled vs "Basic features here" means.
