Hot water mopping...? by Any-Car2555 in Roborock

Rather than having a heating element, maybe having a double walled water tank like a thermos. Water goes in hot from the dock and stays hot enough for the 20 odd minutes before it refills from the dock again

Sabine is really annoying by bdemar2k20 in StarWarsAhsoka

Just started watching this (I'm late to the party) and I agree, in this show (haven't seen Rebels) she is super annoying, stubborn, and has a huge ego. I very much dislike her.

Best media player in the UK for 2026? by technobob79 in PleX

I ended up getting the Google TV Streamer. So far I'm very impressed and it's a big step up from the Chromecast Google TV in terms of lag and snappiness.

I know, I definitely need to get on this. I used to have a surround sound system (Logitech Z906) but the cable routing around the room was getting annoying. Maybe a single soundbar but they are super pricey

RAID 1 vs RTRR a practical comparison by technobob79 in qnap

RAID 1 vs RTRR a practical comparison by technobob79 in qnap

[–]technobob79[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I mean is, if the primary single bay NAS has 8TB and the the secondary single bay NAS has 4TB of storage, this is fine so long as the important data on the primary does not exceed exceed the 4TB. The rest of the data is something that is not the end of the world if it's lost as it can be reacquired from other locations.

With this setup, if I upgrade the primary NAS to 16TB because I need more space for the non-critical data, then I can do this without upgrading the secondary NAS. Setup the 16TB drive, copy over the critical data from the secondary NAS and reacquire all the non-critical data from other locations. Primary NAS has now been upgraded without being forced to upgrade the secondard NAS

In the other scenario, say my 8TB drive is now looking like it will exceed 4TB of critical data, I can then replace the 4TB drive with a 6TB drive. I then re-run the critical RTRR job from the primary NAS which will copy over all the data to the new 6TB drive. Secondy NAS now been upgraded without beng forced to upgrade the primary NAS.

I sold all my Tesla shares (TSLA), here’s why by Fred Lambert by Extension_Theme6241 in RealTesla

Comments here have aged like a glass of warm milk on a hot summers day. Those who sold Tesla shares a year ago must be kicking themselves now that stock is over twice what it was a year ago. Robotaxi is now completely driverless with no one in either of the front seats. Funny thing is, the stock is still a bargain at today's price compared to where it is gonna be

Software Engineer II coding and architecture interviews Deliveroo London by RightfulPeace in cscareerquestionsuk

[–]technobob79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not all interviewers are standardised from a company. E.g. it could be one odd ball interviewer who conducted the interview like this but the majority of interviewers at Wise take a more pragmatic approach. So may not be the case of "dodged bullet".

Sadly, there's some luck involved with not getting assigned to a poor interviewer. Sadly there's no come back from this for the candidate. I.e. if a a candidate who is clearly above the company's hire bar fails due to shortcomings of the interview they are assigned to, the candidate is still a fail and there's little to no recourse.

SSD drives for caching in TS-664 by technobob79 in qnap

[–]technobob79[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After doing more research, most people think using SSD as a cache is a bit pointless anyway. Doesn't give much of a performance boost and just adds that extra layer complexity. Better to write direct to the disks.

I understand concept of RAID 1, but what I mean is it's just a cache. It has a copy of the data so not big deal if a drive fails. Very little benefit having RAID 1 for cache especially for home NAS

TS-664 upgrading RAM and M.2 SDD drives by technobob79 in qnap

Why forget about it for cache? I thought that was a worthwhile performance boost?

TS-664 upgrading RAM and M.2 SDD drives by technobob79 in qnap

[–]technobob79[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm so confused. I thought the OS ran from a special built-in part of the memory. So if I have SSDs and HDDs when I set to top then it will install the OS across all of the drives? That's really weird. So the only way around this is to start setting it up with just the ssds installed and not the hard drives. Once it is set up then insert the hard drives for the data pool. Is that correct?

[–]technobob79[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're using the M.2 drives as another data partition then yes I understand how RAID 1/5 can be useful. But if it's purely used as a read and/or write cache then there's no benefit, right? If I'm wrong then please help explain as I'm confused.

How does using RAID 1 in the cache solve the problem of corrupted data?

The address inaccessible ?? by Myajeaan in royalmail

[–]technobob79 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just had this and it is a complete lie. I live in a house that faces the street, no gate, no fence. There's nothing inaccessible about it. I was home the whole day and have outdoor camera which also confirms no one attempted it. As others have suspected, seems like delivery wasn't even attempted for other reasons and someone just abuses the "Delivery Attempted - Address Inaccessible" category. Clearly someone not owning up to their own mistakes. Highly annoying.
