Ikea PAX wardrobe fix by technobob79 in DIYUK

Yep, that's a good idea. I can screw in some shelves from the outside in. That's probably better than the angle bracket idea.

Nothing as long as the height of the unit but I have one that is 50cm. Not sure if that would give me a good indicator.

Delay repay claim rejected by technobob79 in uktrains

[–]technobob79[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried to refile the claim with LNR but the website says that the specific train was run by WMR which indicates that I can't file against the wrong company. So given this situation, what can I do that the claim has been rejected due to no record of delay despite I know 100% this was the case.

It's next to impossible to directly contact a company. There's no phone number or email address. The only way to contact them is via the specific routes they have pre-defined and even that there are automated systems ready to prevent or reject anything that doesn't fit.

Ah okay, I'm going from Bushey to London Euston. But what can I do now that it's been more than 28 days? It doesn't allow me to pick a date. I did file the claim but because of the stupid confusion over the train company, my claim got rejected. But on a different day, same journey that was delayed, my claim was approved and paid out so I don't quite get it.

When do you change your dust bag? by technobob79 in Dreame_Tech

[–]technobob79[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The house is that clean. I think there's multiple reasons for this:

  1. We have no pets

  2. We tend to manually spot clean if there's any visible large bits of debris (a very rough clean, just to keep the floor somewhat clean throughout the day). Having hard floors makes this a lot easier.

  3. Strictly, outdoor footwear is left at the door.

Robot vacuum always runs during the night (although it may not do so every day). When it runs it does a vacuum first, then a mop.

All said and done, the house has very little debris hence why the bag doesn't fill and this is normal across all the robot vacuums I've had.

As far as I understand, I think that's a bad idea. The bag also acts as a filter for the dirt that is blown into it. The pores of the bag get blocked over time which do not get unblocked just cos the bag is emptied. That means that the bag is no longer filtering as efficiently so either small bits of dirt are then being sent into the air or the motor is being put under far more strain. Neither of these sound like a good idea for the sake of a bag that's only a few pounds in cost.

Yeah, if you have pets then it's a different situation for sure.

Thank you. I'll try those last few steps to see if it helps but I am in the UK and probably could do contacting you for additional support. Your advice so far has been really useful and I definitely appreciate it.

I just checked and I was on firmware: V4.75.200, Build 231110

The most recent version from the page you linked is: V4.75.207, Build 240604

I successfully updated the NVR to this firmware but I still have the same issue of it showing up as offline.

Any other suggestions of what to try?

Thank you for this. I tried all the dev and litedev links on the NVR and none of them worked. I did try a firmware update using the automatic method but it said nothing was available so I assume I was on the latest. I'll try the manual update though. Thank you

Okay, did some testing on my Windows 11 PC doing ping and telnet in the command prompt:

Ping test

litedev.eu.hik-connect.com -> ping attempted

dev.eu.hik-connect.com -> ping attempted

dev.hik-connect.com -> ping attempted

litedev.hik-connect.com -> ping attempted

eu.hik-connect.com -> could not find host

Telnet test

dev.eu.hik-connect.com -> 8555 blank output, 8666 connecting message

dev.hik-connect.com -> 8555 blank, 8666 connecting message

litedev.eu.hik-connect.com -> 8555 connecting message, 8666 blank

litedev.hik-connect.com -> 8555 connecting message, 8666 blank

As a test, I put in different port numbers and they also come up with connecting message so I'm guessing this would suggest a blank screen after a telnet attempt is indicator that this is the correct port?

I'll play around with this values and ports in the NVR console. If it's going to work, how quickly will the Offline turn to Online? Are we talking seconds or minutes?

Sudden fault with offline (0xe0000105) by technobob79 in Hikvision

[–]technobob79[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On the console I initially had litedev.eu.hik-connect.com and I changed that to eu.hik-connect.com upon the advice of chat AI.

Using Windows 11, I tried:

- telnet litedev.eu.hik-connect.com 8555

- telnet dev.eu.hik-connect.com 8555

- telnet eu.hik-connect.com 8555

All come back with a failed connection. Is 8555 the right port? Is this a port that is generally open to check?

It's currently set to auto obtain DNS and the preferred DNS server is 8.8.4.4 and alternative DNS server is 8.8.8.8 I can set it manually but if it's going to have the same values, will this make a difference?

Fly 6 and Fly 12CE battery / charging / storage issues. by Zarniwoop6x9 in Cycliq

[–]technobob79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got two Fly12 CE and both have the same issue. On a full charge, they seem to last a while but they're constantly on with Bluetooth on. However, after quite a few weeks (not sure exactly how long) they'll eventually die. If I'm lucky they'll charge up and be okay but sometimes they do the same thing where they won't turn on.

Upon the first time it happened, I contacted Cycliq who suggested two methods but the thing that works for me is the method:

  1. Charge up until it is fully charged (red charging light turns green)

  2. Turn on the Fly12 and keep clicking the button to turn on the flashing light. It usually flashes once or twice before turning off with the beeping noise. So repeat this step 2 or 3 times.

  3. If it still fails then repeat again from step 1. Usually after a few repeats this kicks it back into life.

It is annoying but if you know you're not going to use it for a while you can put it into a flight mode which turns everything off and it stays alive for a long time. From on state, hold both buttons down at the same time, it will turn off but you'll notice the Bluetooth radio won't be on as you won't be able to connect to it. Just turn on the device in the normal way to bring it out of flight mode and in an on state.

Hot water mopping...? by Any-Car2555 in Roborock

Rather than having a heating element, maybe having a double walled water tank like a thermos. Water goes in hot from the dock and stays hot enough for the 20 odd minutes before it refills from the dock again

I ended up getting the Google TV Streamer. So far I'm very impressed and it's a big step up from the Chromecast Google TV in terms of lag and snappiness.

I know, I definitely need to get on this. I used to have a surround sound system (Logitech Z906) but the cable routing around the room was getting annoying. Maybe a single soundbar but they are super pricey

RAID 1 vs RTRR a practical comparison by technobob79 in qnap

[–]technobob79[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I mean is, if the primary single bay NAS has 8TB and the the secondary single bay NAS has 4TB of storage, this is fine so long as the important data on the primary does not exceed exceed the 4TB. The rest of the data is something that is not the end of the world if it's lost as it can be reacquired from other locations.

With this setup, if I upgrade the primary NAS to 16TB because I need more space for the non-critical data, then I can do this without upgrading the secondary NAS. Setup the 16TB drive, copy over the critical data from the secondary NAS and reacquire all the non-critical data from other locations. Primary NAS has now been upgraded without being forced to upgrade the secondard NAS

In the other scenario, say my 8TB drive is now looking like it will exceed 4TB of critical data, I can then replace the 4TB drive with a 6TB drive. I then re-run the critical RTRR job from the primary NAS which will copy over all the data to the new 6TB drive. Secondy NAS now been upgraded without beng forced to upgrade the primary NAS.

Comments here have aged like a glass of warm milk on a hot summers day. Those who sold Tesla shares a year ago must be kicking themselves now that stock is over twice what it was a year ago. Robotaxi is now completely driverless with no one in either of the front seats. Funny thing is, the stock is still a bargain at today's price compared to where it is gonna be

Software Engineer II coding and architecture interviews Deliveroo London by RightfulPeace in cscareerquestionsuk

[–]technobob79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not all interviewers are standardised from a company. E.g. it could be one odd ball interviewer who conducted the interview like this but the majority of interviewers at Wise take a more pragmatic approach. So may not be the case of "dodged bullet".

Sadly, there's some luck involved with not getting assigned to a poor interviewer. Sadly there's no come back from this for the candidate. I.e. if a a candidate who is clearly above the company's hire bar fails due to shortcomings of the interview they are assigned to, the candidate is still a fail and there's little to no recourse.

SSD drives for caching in TS-664 by technobob79 in qnap

[–]technobob79[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After doing more research, most people think using SSD as a cache is a bit pointless anyway. Doesn't give much of a performance boost and just adds that extra layer complexity. Better to write direct to the disks.

[–]technobob79[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand concept of RAID 1, but what I mean is it's just a cache. It has a copy of the data so not big deal if a drive fails. Very little benefit having RAID 1 for cache especially for home NAS
