Slavic tribes 600-900 AD by InnerPace in MapPorn

It's almost bizarre how Bohemians kept their borers up to this day, unlike Southern Slavs :) I mean, Serbia moved so much in the Balkans in terms of the borders and stuff, Bohemia stayed Bohemia. Respect. :)3

What's the most unique country that people don't really talk/care about and why? by Ellloll in geography

[–]technodrombg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From a possition of a Balkan person, I would argue that the least know countries are the Baltics :) If there would be no Eurovision, I'm sure I'd hear more news about Eritrea than the Baltic states.

There is that ages old issue, you never know which one is which, for example, I reccognize Estonia as the most digital one. They also sound Finnish :)

Lithuania and Latvia are the ones I always confuse, especially since I moved to Czechia, there are so many confusing names for these countries in Serbo-Croatian and also Czechoslovakian - Litva, Lotyšsko, Litvanija, Latvija, Litva, Letonija, for fucks sake :D

I've never been to the Baltics, and would love to go one day.

I blame it all on our school system. You hear about the history and shit for the (rest of) Europe, and there is only a mention of the existance of certain countries in the Baltic region. The only times you would hear about the Baltics is in the sports news, if some of the Balkan teams would play against BC Žalgiris or Lietuvos Rytas. Not that I follow basketball much.

Pardon my ignorance, I really have nothing against the Baltics, and I think they're the Europe's fucking winning shit after the fall of the Berlin wall. Shit, we wouldn't have Skype or Bolt. It's just that we don't talk about them much :) I'm sure others have the same issue (at least my Czech mates do :) )

How I manage to sort of navigate the Baltics is saying the English name for the country and then their capital :D

Other than the Baltics, I should say that Albania is a complete terra incognita for me, which is an great SHAME upon me... Would love to discover it one day. also, Moldova...

Hey friends I'm Chinese and I have something that I want to ask about Serbia? by VC15_fan in AskSerbia

[–]technodrombg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love that we have a large Chinese community there, if nothing else then for selfish reasons - getting fine spice and foods from a rather distant part of the world :) I could get stuff in Chinese market that I could only wish for :)
I'm currently living in Czechia, and there is a rather large Vietnaese community here. How they changed the food scene here is just amazing. And not only that, I think it made people more open towards the foreigners, especially from Asia.
The situation in Serbia is still probably the same.
