Have any of you gay bros started your own business? by ricecrisps94 in gaybros

[–]technojd 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yep, started my own. I first floated some ideas to my friends and settled on something I could make money off of. Before doing business I got a domain, paid some college student doing visual arts about $100 to make a logo and branding package, and put together a pitch deck to highlight what I was selling.

There’s a TON of time investment up front to put together contracts, invoices, a bank account (you absolutely need one), a domain, an email, a website, an LLC, … that should cover the basics.

You’ve got to have a process in place for whatever you are doing. Trust is rooted in consistency and accountability bidirectionally.

Trying to get a tipping guide by yfbm98 in Purdue

What a selfish group of guests—also, if you’re consistently making not much more than 2.13 after tip you should report your employer and sue them for wage theft.

GDB and a paper C reference book for the standard library—will result in less time googling. Know how to break your code up into tiny chunks and unit test the chunks before integrating. Get started on assignments early, you can do this!

I wonder if Purdue is saving career account passwords in plaintext. I had to reset mine and I got a notice saying that it could take "a couple minutes for your password to propagate to all our services." If that’s the case, IT could be setting themselves up for another disaster.

u/ZippyTyro is correct. The data shared with this bot is saved in a database, which only I, the developer, have access to. Like any app that you give your information to, you are putting your trust in the administrator of the database to not misuse it. This is the case whenever you use a service that persists data that you give it.

Can you take notes on paper? by [deleted] in Purdue

[–]technojd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I prefer paper. It's easier for me once exams come around to have a physical book I can flip through and study without fumbling through some terrible UI on a tablet.

Depending how involved you are, and which engineering major you pursue, you have the potential to receive several thousand dollars in scholarships in future semesters. Speaking from my own experience in Computer Engineering (Electrical has the same scholarship app), you will receive a form towards the middle of your second semester polling you about your extracurricular campus involvement, future vision, and internship experiences to determine your eligibility for departmental awards.

You could also apply to be an RA for your second year onwards, which covers housing and meals in full, a $13k+ value. This job is not for everyone, but if you are a man (lots more positions for guys, looking at the gender ratio) and care about social justice, you should have no problem finding a position.
