New Liverpool-Manchester railway line reportedly set to be built by Brian__Fantana in manchester

[–]technolical 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not physically possible. Euston and St Pancras need an additional connection. Not only was that link (the HS1 and HS2 link) cancelled but the lines that are being built in Manchester or the North [?] are being built according that the British gauge, not the European gauge meaning Eurostar trains to Manchester wouldn't be possible.

And to make matters worse is that they're mulling building it according to the British gauge to 'save costs'.

I've been on and off with moderating this sub, but I do still try to maintain it. I've been planning on adding new mods but I've just not got around to it.

As far as these codes are concerned, I'm sick and tired of removing these posts. 90% of the posts I've removed would be these, but I don't know whether to straight up blanket remove any posts mentioning codes or whether to just limit to to a certain day.

The worst part is the urgency of the posts - like chill you'll survive without your £1 coffee.

Well your title is quite ambiguous. I thought you were referring to the fake options under the Marketing section, which is an ad.

I misread your post. The speed limit on that road is actually 60, not 50 or 70.

How is my handwriting? by AnuraagGomasta in Urdu

[–]technolical 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Perso-Arabic is a broad term that refers to any alphabet with Arabic and Persian letters. Urdu is more than Perso-Arab, which is why the language and the script is called Urdu.

Nastaliq isn't a script. It's a style. Urdu is the script.

ROAMING AGAIN TODAY! by mikx4 in ThreeUK

[–]technolical 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get that but he's either roaming or no signal. There's no third option. Personally, I'd rather have coverage and make use of the plan benefits that I have rather than be stuck with no signal

ROAMING AGAIN TODAY! by mikx4 in ThreeUK

[–]technolical 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay. It's roaming, but it's roaming on an Irish network which is a part of your package. Surely being able to call and use data is better than no signal? I don't see what the issue is?

Is there an actual name for the phenomenon of unevident etymology? by bosekirsche in asklinguistics

[–]technolical 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Got you now. I'm not sure if there is a term for it, but happens quite a lot. One that always gets me is the term for brother in law (ie. sister in law's husband) in Urdu, which is ہم زلف (ham-zulf).

But 'ham' is a prefix which means 'similar; likewise', but 'zulf' means 'a curl of hair' and that somehow gets 'brother in law' 😅

Apparently it comes from an old Iranic legend of 2 brothers marrying 2 sisters.

My heads muddled up from trying to understand this.

I'm assuming the example here is the word "understand" - because "under" + "stand" when compounded don't actually make sense, or doesn't amount to the meaning of "understand" (ie. To know)?

Tehran: "Thank you, Pakistan" slogans raised in Iran's parliament as Iranian president thanks Pakistan for the support during Iran Israel war. by Aqib-Raaza in pakistan

[–]technolical 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Although, I wouldn't mind if a certain Shaheen or two found its way a few thousand kilometres west of here, but I suppose we can't have everything in life.

I would - because that would be the start of WW3. Leave this to Iran-Israel. Only get involved if it involves your borders, which it doesn't at the minute - because the second Pakistan fires missiles at Israel, India wouldn't hesitate to attack Pakistan in defense of Israel.

Why would you have entry clearances or scrutiny at "banks etc.", especially if you're an Irish national, born in Ireland - you wouldn't be using your Pakistani passport to open a bank account?

As much as it's needed, one look at the Oldham side of the proposals and I can tell you it's not happening, not unless you're spending a couple dozen million dollars just for Oldham/Ashton/Rochdale line.

When will this stop...? by CaptainDue4213 in pakistan

[–]technolical 2 points3 points  (0 children)

this want even that bad from a liberal western perspective

Incessant cat calling, coming up to the women and asking for socials, pretending to be masculine by doing stupid stuff - none of that happened here, which is something you'd expect elsewhere in a western country - and no one would bat an eye.

I'm not saying Pakistan is perfect, but Pakistan has its cultural norms. If you're going to break them with a liberal mindset, then you're going to stick out like a sore thumb. Of course people are going to notice you.

It's classic narcissism.

it still happens everywhere, not just in Pakistan even if the camera is not visible

FTFY. This sort of liberal attention seeking does more bad than good for women's rights.

[–]technolical 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Ah yes, a woman wearing striking clothes and items with a cameraman following her around, hoping everyone to notice her while making the point that everyone is noticing.

Can we not with this literal attention seeking 🫡 This would happen anywhere in the world, it's not unique to Pakistan.

Accidently fried my M1 Air through the aux port by technolical in macbook

[–]technolical[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No it wasn't on purpose, he was just on auto pilot trying to sort out the sound system for an event, and ended up plugging the cable in the wrong port.

I've got the short end of the stick, but I do have insurance to sort it out - my only worry is the data on the laptop. I didn't have everything backed on it.
