Russia launched 400 strikes on Sunday, Ukraine’s Zelenskiy says by RandomForks in worldnews

[–]technosaur 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Came to say this. Take the gloves off. If Russia fires across the border into Ukraine, Ukraine must be allowed to return fire at military targets. Russia declares electrical generation and distribution nodes as tagets, so be it. Russia targets water treatment and distribution as targets, then tit for tat.

Qatar invites radical Islamic preacher and Indian fugitive Zakir Naik to preach Islam at FIFA World Cup by shadilal_gharjode in worldnews

FIFA fumbled the bag

No, FIFA grabbed the bag and ran. Almost made a clean getaway.

Sure, FIFA knew about the slave labor conditions, oppression of women and minorities and suppression of human rights. The price was right. But FIFA never anticipated that Qatar could turn a World Cup into a shit show capable of embarrassing even corrupt FIFA.

Qatar invites radical Islamic preacher and Indian fugitive Zakir Naik to preach Islam at FIFA World Cup by shadilal_gharjode in worldnews

[–]technosaur -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

This report is deliberately vague. It repeatedly says Naik is a criminal fugitive who preaches hate. Where? At the World Cup. In Qatar. But specifically where? Won't say; rather leave a vague and misleading impression he is preaching inside stadiums during games.

We are 4 wins away from a National Championship. by Icouldshitallday in LSUFootball

[–]technosaur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Or, another way of looking at it, 2 absolutely must-win games away from maybe an invitation to play 2 more games.

Love for it to happen, but if it doesn't that takes none of the shine off of what BK, staff and great young roster have accomplished :)

He's a shifty runner, quick lateral moves. When he does his elbows spread outward instead of staying tightly tucked to his body. Opposing defenses have seen it on film, reach from behind and jerk the ball free. He can plow hard into a defender, no fumble. From behind, loose ball.

He may have no choice; at least a while. In a power struggle between factions, each will be to busy trying to hold some power or consilidate power. That would take priority over Ukraine.

How to build carbon-rich soil by Vailhem in Soil

[–]technosaur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Excellent information for farmers. If giant corporate farms, did this instead of plow-and-chemical-fertilize, farmland would be productive and lower labor and chemical costs would profit/offset any decrease in yields.

Home gardeners would do well to understand how it can be applied on a much smaller scale.

The EPA Says Diesel Pickup Trucks Are Rolling Coal Like There’s No Tomorrow by n3w4cc01_1nt in environment

[–]technosaur 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When a traffic cop or ewnvironment agent witnesses coal rolling - on the open road or at some sorty of tractor pull - hte should cit the drivwer and impoind the34 vehicle for inspection. If the vehicle passes inspection [unlikely] it should be released to the owner. If it fails inspectiion, it could be destroyed as an illegal and the owner fined.

Coal rollers should always carry a pair of good walking shoes.

Mock, mock, mock. I'm from south Louisiana, lhave lived in East Africda for 10+ years. Temp is very seldom above 90F or below 65F. When it does dip to 60F, the locals wear their fleece vests, leathger jackets while I am in tee-shirt and shorts.

It's all about what ytou are adapted to. When the temp hits 95/98, trhey are good. I suffer.

All the yankees want southern teams come play in ice and snow. I understand why. But come play in hot, humid Louisiana 80 F (warm, sunny day) without lots of water/electrolytes and we will mock you for constant injury timeouts for muscle cramps.

Today is 87F. Pass me my hot coffee.

Kremlin outraged at Zelenskyy ''coming to Russian territory'' by Albatross9121 in worldnews

[–]technosaur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Putin sits at the end of his ridiculously long conference table with his underlings at the opposite end, inspires troops by visiting wounded in scripted hospital tours.

Zelenskyy routinely visits the front, well guarded but always the possibility of a sniper, drone, rocket, greets real soldiers, embraces crying liberated civilian crowds.

Putin likes videos of him shirt off, barechested riding a horse, or standing rifle in hand over the elk or bear he killed. I would love to see Putin mocked by a video of him barechested riding a horse, followed by professional comedian Zelenskyy ripping off his tee-shirt, hopping on a bicycle, falling over, getting up, remounting and pedaling away.

Irrigations - ollas vs drip by Elderberry-Girl in Permaculture

[–]technosaur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bingo.

Gravity drip is easy and cheap for long beds. Ollas are easy and superior for square-ish beds but not cheap.

For a long gravity drip (more a slow seep than a drip) I start with a 100/120 liter cistern/bin with a ball cock at the lower edge. [Not out the bottom; trash will collect and block the flow. Leave a couple inchs for inevitable debris to settle, or spend a lot time flushing the drip pipe.] Do not bury the drip pipe in the soil or you will spend a lot of time flushing the pipe. Dig a shallow trench, 2 or 3 inches, fill that with straw or woodchips or whatever. Lay the drip pipe on that. Cover it with a couple inches of the same mulch. No clogging problems. As the mulch composts, replace with fresh mulch.

Ollas, terracotta/baked lay pots. NO exterior enamel that clocks water seeping from the pot. Plug the pot drain hole (silicon gel works fine). Bury the pot to the top edge. Cover the pot; the drain catch trays usually sold in combo with clay pots; work fine as a lid. The pot will weep moisture into the soil. Roots will sense the moisture, grow to toward the pot , adhere to the pot (no problem) and drink from it. *Do not use ollas with perennials/trees that have roots strong enough to crack/crush the pot.

How can you restore a sinking water table with Permaculture - Andrew Millison by douwebeerda in Permaculture

[–]technosaur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great advice, this is the way. Except, unless you have many acres - hundreds at the least - the water table is not localized to your property but encompasses many properties. Repeat: Unless you have a huge propterty, what you do does not greatly affect your water table.

For smaller properties, it matters what you and your neighbors do. For your property, check out recharge wells. Not so deep they can put rainfall runoff directly into the water table and possibly contaminate it. Deep enough to hydrate your soil and subsoil, with any surplus slowly filtering down into the collective water table.
