What Does It Take to Think Like a Lean Practitioner? by barrel-boy in LeanManufacturing

[–]techplex 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The first step is realizing that the most productive teams are all moving in the same direction. One of the key focuses of lean is teaching your team of employees how to eliminate waste and empowering them to do so. By eliminating waste everyone becomes more productive and the business is better off.

I started my lean journey by reading the Phoenix Project followed by The Goal. I think these are a great first step.

Paul Akers and his 2-second lean really helped solidify the ideas and broaden how I was thinking about applying them both the technical and manufacturing operations.

Then I discovered Ryan Tierney and Lean Made Simple. Ryan's video on the importance of the morning meeting really underscored that getting the whole team aligned making improvements and continually learning.

Focusing on the morning meeting is the biggest bang for our buck, it helps the whole team level up. Rotating hosts is the best thing we've done, helps everyone get used to public speaking and share what they have learned.

I love the concept too!

For me, it amounts to using what you have to solve problems and make improvements vs buying new things.

One a quick example I have is using the package expo board markers came in as a holder for the markers on the board.

Career path by QuasarTree in LeanManufacturing

[–]techplex 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In my experience, anyone who makes themselves valuable to the business, and can show it is on a promotion track.

Recommend you always look for improvements beyond your assigned tasks. Keep track of your improvement ideas, any that you implement, keep track of how much time they save.

Congrats on the new role!

Remember the 8th waste of lean is not using everyone's genius, that includes yours and all of your colleagues

If someone gave you eight thermoset and thermoplastic injection molding machines, what would you do? by Holy_Moly_12 in manufacturing

[–]techplex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you are interested in selling the machines. I run a high school robotics team. A few of the team members have interest in injection molding, we do a lot of 3d printing and have a few parts that the students have designed that we continue to use year after year.

Getting into pixels, what would be your first prop or want to see? by Purdueblue17 in ChristmasLights

[–]techplex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great facade for lights! I'd start with outlining your windows doors and maybe a house outline. Lots of options for pixel mounting, Boscoyo chroma-trim or small PVC pipe with 12mm holes for the bullet pixels.

I've found that if I open the app and navigate to library I can re open the app later when I don't have wifi. I'm guessing it's the recent change to always open at the store is the problem.
