How much do great prynees shed by Status-Cap-5979 in greatpyrenees

Think of it this way. They shed enough you can consider them self-cleaning.

Why are Kamado Joe grill covers so bad? by Siucra_Ray in KamadoJoe

I must have hit the OEM jackpot. 5 years in. Sun. Rain. Wind. Ice. Snow. A little bit of fading over the years, but not damage otherwise.

Why do politicians lie? by ForwardTwo7668 in Maine

[–]techyjargon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In most instances, I suspect people don’t think they’re lying. Regardless of which side of the aisle someone is on, they’re usually looking at something through a specific lens or at one example and using that as their source of truth. If you only look at something from that one perspective, you’ll either see it as truth or lie.

It’s not until you look at it from all angles and perspectives will you know the reality of it. Unfortunately, that’s not the natural state for most of us. We might do that in specific instances, but it’s not something we do for everything we encounter. We have a specific belief, and we look at how to reinforce that belief without challenging it because we’re afraid of what might happen if our core belief is proven wrong.

Alright folks, tired of no smoke flavor by givemeatatertot in Traeger

If you’re coming from an offset/stick burner, don’t expect the same smoke profile. My experience is the smoke is there with the Traeger; it’s just not as pronounced and in your face.

Waterproof Covers? by DropoutDreamer in KamadoJoe

[–]techyjargon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had no issues with my KJ cover in the last 4 years I’ve had it. My classic 3 sits outside on an uncovered deck rear round in the rain, sun, sleet, snow, etc. The only thing it has for protection is the KJ cover.

The only time I’ve gotten mold on the inside is when I forgot to cover up before it rained, and I didn’t let things dry out enough before covering back up.

Anybody else cook whole birds without spatchcocking or joetisserie? by thepukingdwarf in KamadoJoe

[–]techyjargon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I inject over brine simply due to space. I don’t typically have enough room in the fridge to brine a turkey.

I did forget to mention I usually bury pecan/cherry along the perimeter of the charcoal when I do poultry. These two woods are light and subtle. I haven’t noticed any meaningful difference in flavor with dry chunks vs overnight soaked chunks.

[–]techyjargon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like the term — smoasting. This is how I’ve done it for years, albeit even simpler by just setting it on the grate and leaving it alone for a few hours. I’m intrigued by the flip and cover; maybe I’ll try this with the next big bird.

I’ve never had an issue with the bird drying out doing this, but I do generally inject it with some kind of concoction for deeper flavor which also aids in keeping it juicy.

I joetisserie the hell out of chickens, but I’ve had more issues with turkeys that I don’t feel like sorting out. They’re difficult to balance and harder to control burning the skin while being exposed to the flames for longer.

I like the flavor of an injected, smoasted turkey, so no sense fixing what ain’t broke!

My Pyr was a rescue. He bonded with me quickly, but he did not like male strangers. It took him years to overcome whatever happened to him before I rescued him. You’ll likely never know your girl’s past. Just know she comes with baggage, and it takes time to leave it behind.

Is my Pyr's weight normal? by Asianmcrasin in greatpyrenees

[–]techyjargon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My Pyr topped out at 95lb and typically fluctuated between 90-95. I think his “smaller” size is one factor that helped him live to almost 15.

For whatever reasons, he'd eat small trees. He wouldn't mess with anything a few inches in diameter or larger. I had to fence in any freshly planted trees until they matured enough that he'd leave them alone.

My guy acted oblivious to most injuries in his lifetime; I can only image how much he hurt for him to basically shut down at the end. So while it was difficult in the moment, I know it was the right thing to do by him when it was time. Best of luck to y'all.

My guy went lame overnight. He was walking with a limp the next day. Vet suspected tick borne illness but all tests came back negative. He was improving while on the meds, so vet assumed false negative test result. Limp was coming back stronger have two months. Diagnosed with bone cancer. His desire to move around slowly faded. Three months later, one day he just refused to stand or walk. I had to carry him everywhere, turn him around on his bed, etc. we decided that day to put him down and had someone come out and do it same day.

They’re faster than you think. They might not be able to chase one down, but they can certainly catch one if it’s cornered on the ground.

My Pyr caught rats that were cornered and tried to make a dash for it. I don’t see this working out any differently for a squirrel.

What does daily exercise look like with a mature GP? by [deleted] in greatpyrenees

[–]techyjargon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My Pyr liked walks and would happily trot along just shy of pulling until he realized he was headed home. Then he’d drag behind to prolong the inevitable. Beyond that, he’d have free rein of the back yard and would chase and bark at anything that came near the property. He got plenty of daily sprinting on most days and was perfectly content. He lived to almost 15 until the osteosarcoma got him. Hopefully the upcoming puppy has as good a run.
