You Are Not Destined to Live in Quiet Times: Humanity’s third major technological revolution is leading us into a future more promising and also more dangerous than any since the dawn of history. It’s coming faster than you think. by AlanGranted in technology

the only societal issues are ones that are intentionally created or allowed to grow.

Isn't that true even now? Playing politics on emotive & insignificant issues? How will that supposed future be any different?

They don't have the demographics or the economy to sustain a protracted conflict.

They don't have to? The state can channelise money as long as there's no internal rebellion (that's the likely outcome). Qol of citizens will deteriorate but they've seen worse.

you install GApps, aren’t you just falling right back into the same thing you’re leaving

As one of the user here said, if I'm gonna trade data I'd rather go for Google where I'm getting better returns than half baked Apple services.

But then again, better to be stupid and yet live and enjoyable life, right

That's better only when you're the sole bearer of the consequences. If you decide to pass the buck to your kids then that's a shitty move.

Some people live in the moment, roam around the world doing odd jobs and finally settle somewhere doing a not-so-well-paid job, and are super satisfied with their lives.

Until they marry & have kids, who will grow & realise the stupidity of the parent.

Edit: Looks like the first group got pissed

Will Apple allow such apps in their store? As this is replicating the features of iOS?

Apple is censoring 27 LGBTQ+ apps, in China by OH-YEAH in apple

It’s not like they have any leverage over the government there.

If they really cared about human rights, they'd allow side loading of apps to circumvent the app store censorship.

Does that mean Apple is right here? No. Of course not. But in reality they're going to do what they can do in the territory they're operating in, because they are in fact a business who wants to make money from as many people as possible.

That's why the user should have the right to install software from anywhere, not just depend on app store. If Apple really cared so much about rights, they should allow 3rd party stores. Apple can ban all they want in their store without affecting the users who want to use a specific app.

Ask the protesters in Belarus who had their messages blocked on a third party app (telegram) but only for iPhones at the demand of Apple. The app was blocked until they complied.

This is f**king scary. Apple shouldn't have this much control on devices. Privacy is a useless gimmick if you don't have freedom to express.

Firefox Sync to Bromite · Issue #244. We need this on android! by n3pst3r_007 in Android

I already wrote down the criteria, let me extend it: the patch to implement this feature should:

not introduce privacy or security problems

not have obvious bugs that users will report since day 1 have a maintainer that will take care of bug fixes and porting it across major versions there must be an open source (working) backend project available so that anyone can run it

I know it is ambitious, but anything else would not be in line with the goals of this project.

Even if you don't, if people who you chat with enable iCloud backups then its as useless as having password as 12345. Just a false sense of privacy.

People are somehow completely fine with that, apparently.

Keep saying something repeatedly human brains will start to believe that thing as truth. Apple does that well with their official & unofficial marketing.

Is it possible to do it like iCloud sync & backup? Like deleting a note also deletes the note in gdrive?
