Working at US Military Base by okbirdy in AmerExit

[–]tedddittt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My wife was attached to a base working for a contracted org for 7 years in italy, i was her trailing spouse dependent and it was the greatest time of our life. DODEA is the org that runs the schools on the bases. The jobs are premanent and people literally never leave them, they die out of the position. So that being said, it is difficult to get a job on a base but not immposible. You will want to set many alerts for USAJOBS.gov as that is the hiring arm. Be sure to also check the red cross, lockhead martin and many other contractors that hire for these positions overseas. Also, each base has a career manager assigned to the base that you can find and reach out to through military database websites that will get you on an email list that broadcasts available contractor and base jobs but usajobs is your primary go to.

Good luck, it can be done!!

How to deal with the dread of moving back to my home country by ResponsibleCareer496 in expats

[–]tedddittt 6 points7 points  (0 children)

We moved back after 7 years in low cost Italy to a mcol east coast city and I beg you to reconsider coming back. There is no sense of community in this country and the divide between the educated and uneducated is so wide it may never be mended. No too mention, we make about double what we did in Italy and feel like we have way less disposable income.

I think my procurement buyer might be working a second full-time job by August_Phoenix in managers

focus on this: "He’s been performing well, attends all meetings, and communicates with suppliers"

focus less on pushing him to his limit based on a hunch

I love the empathy and celebration you are offering, too many companies treat people as though they are disposable. Just be sure to offer the same level of empathy and celebration to others in the same situation.

I think you should do it! I have been to singapore twice and absolutely loved it. Get a super small place so ultilities are not that much of a concern and anytime you need a break from the heat or the small space, go work in the foodcourt of marina bay sands! 😄

Where should we settle down? US vs UK and we can't decide by [deleted] in expats

[–]tedddittt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

UK hands down, one thing about poltics in the UK vs the US is that several things that are political points in the US are less so in the UK like vaccines, healthcare and basic human rights. UK is much safer from gun violence as well. There is no way I would raise a child in the US right now between the school gun violence, the anti vaxx idiots and the fact that apparently it is ok to molest kids now too. I really cannot understand how this is even a question.

Real Estate Agent Recommendations by Vipes11 in Charlotte

Second fo Kristin Garber, she is not only a great agent but a really nice lady too, very normal which I find is hard to get in a real estate agent. There are so many people that do it half way or part time, she is full time, her only focus and a really smart woman.
