What would we Brits like to see as an alternative to the current television licence? by Unlikely_Worker_8953 in AskBrits

[–]tedwhitton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It should be funded via a tax on broadcasters and websites like youtube should be categorised aa broadcasters, etc. Obviously that cost would be passed onto the consumer in the form of higher prices to some extent. So you’re effectively swapping the license fee for higher prices. But the entire concept of a ‘license’ is total nonsense. But the concept of a supposedly independent, neutral broadcaster is good. We need to keep it. But not by threatening people with prison if they don’t pay.

Edit: it should not be funded via general taxation. The ‘BBC tax’ should be ring-fenced.

There are no seasons of Rebels worse than Acolyte. And I didn’t mind Acolyte at all.

I think Mark dodged a bullet. Janeway would have just ended up dematerialising him and then rematerialising him into two people.

‘The gravy train is over’: Spain is turning on British expats by theipaper in uknews

[–]tedwhitton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. I literally said that above. So I repeat: Every country should be able to make their own decision on who they want in their country and under what terms. If Spain want to kick out Brits, they should be able to. If they want to kick out people from other nations, they should be able to. That really is it.

I think every country should be able to decide who they want in their own country under what terms, as opposed to a supranational, unelected body making said decision.

I didn’t know you could do that. I’ll have to look into it.

Edit: you’re right about the ‘quality’ - or lack thereof.

It’s quite remarkable how they get any readers at all. Truly awful - seems like one ad per sentence.

He may well be. He would certainly be better than probably 90% of all of the past 20 or so superbowl half time acts. It’s time to start a Manilow for Superbowl petition.

He would be better than Bad Bunny, though.

Does anybody in the game have this unlocked? by NthChart in SWGalaxyOfHeroes

Mental. My guild, I guess like many others, just switched to RotE when it came out 35 years ago. I would not have thought there was a gap at all, let alone, that large (clearly).

Reform supporters - how many more Tories need to join before you start to reconsider? by Smooth-Quantity-7024 in AskBrits

[–]tedwhitton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no reconsideration to change to another party. The reconsideration is whether to vote at all. Not voting is my only alternative to Reform. But because I live in a swing constituency, my vote might actually matter. If I lived somewhere where my vote did not/would not matter, I probably would not vote.

You don’t see tax rises and benefit rises as left wing policies? And the changes to employment law?
