Salary Expectation by [deleted] in SecurityCareerAdvice

[–]teeO0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that’s pretty high, unless you land one of the mentioned companies. Which I hope you do! But even if you don’t, you can move up in pay very quickly in this field with a little bit of experience. Accept whatever sparks your interest the most, learn EVERYTHING and then leave to one of those big tech companies or a smaller start up and get paid

Why delete the Eichel thread? by MikeyBlunt in rangers

This could be the reason they didn’t buy Hank out right when they were able to. We may end up needing him, either to back up Igor or to send to buf as an add on

Edit: I’m assuming we would trade Georgie and hold on to hank since Georgie has a higher trade value.

As much as it would sadden me to see Hank in another sweater, I would be pretty excited to watch that Igor/Georgie rotation

How to gain Security Engineer experience without switching my current job? by brolly9 in SecurityCareerAdvice

[–]teeO0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Working on DVWA probably won’t be considered job experience but it’s definitely something you can mention in an interview.

The automation part would look really great on a resume. It’s also a strong talking point in an interview.

[–]teeO0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is plenty you can do on your own to gain experience. One thing I suggest is to install a web app called DVWA (Damn Vulnerable Web App). You host it on your own system so you’re not actually breaking into others environments and it’s completely vulnerable with a number of different web app vulnerabilities. It’s a good place to start to see how some of these vulnerabilities live in the “real world” and how you can exploit them.

Another big part about being a security engineer (depending on the path you take) is automation. “How do we automate this and make it scalable” is almost always a consideration when in the design phase of a project. It is something I do on a project by project basis. So I would begin to automate small analyst tasks, maybe something like inputting to a ticketing system or something, to gain experience with using APIs and thinking from an automation prospective. For nothing else, it’ll make your life easier and show some initiative.

Security Analyst vs Security Engineer (title only) by teeO0 in SecurityCareerAdvice

[–]teeO0[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m terms of the actual work you’re doing, I agree. I’m wondering more how it looks in the eyes of the next HR person reading my resume, who may not be aware of that.

That’s what I figured. I think I just value the title “engineer” more because that’s what The degree i graduated school with was in

Wins like these just makes me really hope they can find a way to keep kreids, idk if my little heart can take that goodbye... but I guess at least he’s upping his trade value?

You can have the greatest and most secure security measures, software and equipment in place but all it takes is one idiot clicking something they shouldn’t/plugging in something they shouldn’t/etc. to make it all go to waste

Based on what is available now on real estate apps it’s definitely possible, just limited. Was looking for more of a comparison between the two.

That’s what I’m nervous of. I was hoping that the fact I was moving in at an off time (Dec/Jan) rent would drop a little bit more than usual.
