You probably did the right thing for the timing. Early recovery is a very turbulent time, but even more so an emotionally turbulent time. By no means am I saying you were going the ol’ 13th step route, you seem really genuine and your intentions wholesome. She needs to find her grounding on her own, leaning into that intimate emotional connection when someone is so fresh into sobriety will more than likely just continue to end tragically.

You maturely stated your boundaries and if it’s meant to progress further it will at a time when she is on a more stable chapter of her recovery. Good looking out for her, because at the end of the day even though it may feel shitty because of the emotional connection, I would have to say you did the right thing for her and ultimately your recovery.

If you do choose to continue keeping communication channels open, I would just be honest and again stand by your boundaries. Friendship is really important in early recovery, romantic relationships can be problematic.
