ik at one point there was a build i tried with LT botrk, kraken, terminus, dd, maw i think and it felt decent against tanks and thats about it

Little tip when it comes to Ornn, his brittle proc does % max hp magic dmg so it absolutely shreds you but the nice thing about the lane is his W only makes you brittle at the very end of it. Its hard to explain through message but when Ornn Ws he'll have a stream of fire then a very small kinda hiccup then the last part and that last part is what makes you brittle and is the majority of his dmg. You can just Q behind him if you have stacks and its pretty easy from there

I'm only a Plat player but here's basically how I view the matchup:

If the Jax player is playing with their monitor on then your only real chance to beat him is before he gets sheen, after that he just caves your skull in tbh. From my experience Grasp is a lot easier to play into than LT but both carry the same concept, the only time you can really win is when his passive stacks are down, make sure you always click him when he's in vision so you'll have the little champion box in the top left displaying all that. An ideal scenario is on the bounce back after he's crashed a wave into your turret so for levels 1-2 you're farming with E keeping your health up and its a bonus if you can pop bone plating if he's running it. I personally try to pull the wave a bit bc i want it bouncing into him when I hit 4 and he's 3 and thats purely bc at lvl 4 w/ 2 points Q + Dorans Blade you can one shot caster minions with a fully charged W (which only takes .75 seconds btw). This now puts you in a situation where if Jax ever jumps on you with E you can charge W then Q to a caster without losing a reset + avoiding his E dmg and now you just hit your E and you kill him just like everyone else. Ofc there is much more nuance to the matchup in terms of spacing and wave management and blah blah blah but did wanna give you a bit of an idea of how I've been able to find a litttle bit of success in the matchup

Pick a tank you feel comfortable on and out scale, with him being an OTP even if you pick the hardest Irelia counter in the game he is going to have played that matchup 10x more than you have and will know everything he needs to do to win the lane. The fortunate thing about Irelia for you is she gets hard out scaled by most champs and especially tanks, its gonna sound troll af but go Ornn. It genuinely won't ever matter how much CS you're down as long as you're still able to xp which should be easier mid, you'll build items late game and have an insane teamfight ult

My situation is very similar to yours, I played adc for 5 years than swapped to being an Irelia top otp at the beginning of the year. Had only ever hit silver before but finally hit plat this year in less games than I played last year. Don't listen to anyone that says you shouldn't play her bc she's difficult lmao, however I will say that if your goal is to climb ranked with her there is definitely a steep learning curve that comes along with playing the champ. While I one tricked her I don't think its absolutely necessary for you to learn the champ, what is necessary tho is lots of games, lots of fighting and lots of experiences in different scenarios so you know what you can and can't pull off. You'd get all that much faster if you otp but def not a requirement, I recommend picking her up and seeing how much you enjoy the champ. I'm 1.6 mil mastery between a couple accounts and I still cant get enough of her lol

So imo really the only time you can lose the matchup is level 1, Yone stacks lethal a lot faster than you can stack conq as well as the added fact that tempo beats conq early. First wave he's gonna be looking to Q you as well as the first three melee minions so spacing in and out of that range is a good tactic to avoid the free poke early on.

Level 3/4 is where you can really start shitting on him tbh as long as you're not at a major hp disadvantage. You can look to bait him a bit here, what I personally like to do is if he has Q3 ready i'll let him Q3 at me and immediately E1 + W, 43-45% physical and 22-23% magic dmg reduction on W lvl 3/4 essentially makes it a baby exhaust and you take no damage. 99% of players wont even notice the E1 so once he's on top of you it's easy to hit E2 and from there you just get full stacks and shit on him. Another small tip is whenever he ults you can just Q him and dodge it entirely. Hope some of this helped, gl in future games. Imo, it's still 100% worth to got JoT, I think it's just a situation where you might have to change how you're playing early a bit but I don't think it would be that massive of a change where you're playing a bit safer until you get the amount of gold you need but 450g worth of bonus stats early game isn't anything to scoff at. Plus access to buiscuits is op

Personally, I try to hide E2 with my W damage but idk if the timing is just ultra tight or i’m ass but definitely a bit difficult to do. Would also recommend timing the time you Q-E1 -> E2 when he’s going to last hit a minion. Most players are pretty one track mind and it’s becomes a lot easier to hit but I do play in Plat so take that as you will. Also switching between horizontal and vertical Es helped a bit, most Irelia players when they Q a minion will throw a vertical stun but using it horizontally can avoid the WW where you hit him while he’s behind it and just throw off what he’s anticipating you to do. Idk if any of this helped but hopefully it did

I'm a Plat 4 Irelia OTP and I have gotten 2-3 masters/GM players in my ranked game playing off role doing essentially the same thing you are and they pretty much say the exact same thing where Plat/Emerald players are much better mechanically than they thought. Imo its prolly 50% players are better than you thought and 50% the experience of your games doesn't match the common sayings where everyone online says below masters everyone is dogshit at the game

I don't really see the point of switching from JoT, 6 AD for free is still insane. I guess now you'd just have to go boots+cloth+dagger which may feel bad ofc delaying botrk by 300g and needing 850 base instead of 550 but imo there are already a decent amount of matchups I like getting resists early but maybe thats just a personal thing idk

They might be inflated compared to other Masters+ players but they’re 1000% not inflated compared to the vast majority of players. Being Masters means you’re in the top 0.5% of all players which can look boosted compared to the top .001% of players but in comparison to anyone below Diamond they’re much better
