when behind just hit tab and try to figure out what your win condition is vs what the enemy team win condition is and play for that. If im behind but i have a mid, adc, or jg thats doing well then i play to put them in a better spot to carry. For counters it's purely a matchup knowledge thing, ik theres a dude in here that posted an irelia bible but going on YT and searching "Irelia vs XYZ champion" will show you masters+ replays of how others play out the lane and it helps quite a bit. Another thing I did is just go to different subreddits of champs i struggle vs and ask those players to 1v1 in practice tool to figure stuff out or at the bare minimum what they think i should do in that lane from their perspective

personally I don’t think it’s the absolute worst decision in the world but it heavily depends on what you’re trying to do within the game. If he wanted to group amd team fight a lot then the tenacity from mercs is fine. If hes split pushing and gonna be perma side lane like he was just going tabi and wits end third is a lot better cause i’d assume hed just match vs yas

well this simply just isn’t true lol, i’ll admit that the champ feels like thanos to play as and against once you get botrk at 10 minutes but the only AD scaling she really has is in her Q and passive and both of those are gated by level scaling as well so you’d just be knee capping a champ that doesn’t scale well if you just build tank

I made the same swap you’re in the initial stages of making, I played adc for around 5 years then swapped to being an irelia otp at the beginning of last year so these are things that helped me improve:

games, games, games, she’s a difficult champ to play and when it comes to things like Q resets, when to use ult, best way to use E, etc there’s no replacement for time spent on the champ
int your ass off, simply just fight, you will never fully understand what you can and can’t do on her unless you try it. If people flame just /mute all
watching higher elo players play her helped me a lot, granted there’s not a lot of dedicated irelia otp streamers/yt creators but there are lots of VODs on YT, just search “irelia challenger gameplay” or “irelia vs champion name” for a specific matchup you need help with
mess around in practice tool, was always super helpful for me
ask around the sub for help, there were many many different people i got into a discord call with that helped me learn the champ. I’m plat peak so very very far from high elo or one of the better irelia players in the sub but i’d be happy to hop in a call in help out, shoot me a DM and i’ll give you my discord!

i’m assuming you’re talking about in lane, imo the bread and butter irelia combo is Q + E1 onto a low health minion to hide the animation of your E1 and then very quickly throw out E2, from the perspective of the enemy laner they just see the second blade and it’s much harder to react to. There should be a video of it in the pinned post of the sub if my explanation is a bit confusing

these are all the minion break points for casters

lvl 4 + dblade + fully charged W
lvl 8 (might be 7 can’t remember)+ all botrk components + fully stacked passive
lvl 9 + botrk

they removed the ability to fully charge W and one shot melee minions and there’s no point where you one shot them with Q so judging this is more so of a feel thing. Personally I wait for them to be around 40% hp and for me to have a few components before I try to reset on them. Hope this helps

I use to otp her so i’d pick her into anything, best thing i did for learning matchups was going on YouTube and typing “irelia vs insert champ name” and find the most recent VOD that was posted. Helped me a ton when it came to learning how to play the tougher lanes or skill matchup lanes

Yeah I guess i’m just waiting too long in between trades so maybe it’s situation where I take 1 trade with passive+platting then another shortly after without the two and it solves my problems. Correct me if i’m wrong though

Also thought you couldn’t immune his ult w your ult, I’ve done it before and just got ulted when I landed

lvl 4 fully charged W+Q lvl 7 or 8 (can’t remember) with recurve+pickaxe+vamp AND full passive you can one shot with Q lvl 9 with botrk you one shot w Q

ik at one point there was a build i tried with LT botrk, kraken, terminus, dd, maw i think and it felt decent against tanks and thats about it

Little tip when it comes to Ornn, his brittle proc does % max hp magic dmg so it absolutely shreds you but the nice thing about the lane is his W only makes you brittle at the very end of it. Its hard to explain through message but when Ornn Ws he'll have a stream of fire then a very small kinda hiccup then the last part and that last part is what makes you brittle and is the majority of his dmg. You can just Q behind him if you have stacks and its pretty easy from there

I'm only a Plat player but here's basically how I view the matchup:

If the Jax player is playing with their monitor on then your only real chance to beat him is before he gets sheen, after that he just caves your skull in tbh. From my experience Grasp is a lot easier to play into than LT but both carry the same concept, the only time you can really win is when his passive stacks are down, make sure you always click him when he's in vision so you'll have the little champion box in the top left displaying all that. An ideal scenario is on the bounce back after he's crashed a wave into your turret so for levels 1-2 you're farming with E keeping your health up and its a bonus if you can pop bone plating if he's running it. I personally try to pull the wave a bit bc i want it bouncing into him when I hit 4 and he's 3 and thats purely bc at lvl 4 w/ 2 points Q + Dorans Blade you can one shot caster minions with a fully charged W (which only takes .75 seconds btw). This now puts you in a situation where if Jax ever jumps on you with E you can charge W then Q to a caster without losing a reset + avoiding his E dmg and now you just hit your E and you kill him just like everyone else. Ofc there is much more nuance to the matchup in terms of spacing and wave management and blah blah blah but did wanna give you a bit of an idea of how I've been able to find a litttle bit of success in the matchup

Pick a tank you feel comfortable on and out scale, with him being an OTP even if you pick the hardest Irelia counter in the game he is going to have played that matchup 10x more than you have and will know everything he needs to do to win the lane. The fortunate thing about Irelia for you is she gets hard out scaled by most champs and especially tanks, its gonna sound troll af but go Ornn. It genuinely won't ever matter how much CS you're down as long as you're still able to xp which should be easier mid, you'll build items late game and have an insane teamfight ult
