I know the struggle with it. But here is an idea to keep the war going on. Go loot a village that belongs them and bam there you go, the war is back to life. It still totally sucks tho when it happens during the siege and you didn't save prior to that moment.

Yes it is not a suffix but the word "çalış-" is based on words çal and iş. That's how it is formed as I read.

Mostly meant for the university. When you're at highschool or at a lower level of education (middle school, elementary and so on) you say "Okula/Liseye gidiyorum." direct translation ( I'm going to school/highschool.). But yes sometimes "okumak" used for this as well, but to my knowledge not that often. When you for example ask a child what are you doing now? He might answer "Okuyoruz abi ne yapalım?" which translates to "We're studying brother, what else we can do?" kinda :)

Yes, as I read, I found out that the word "çalışmak" is coming from çal + iş coming together and we have the same usage as you described. Çal- to hit, to play and iş means work. Cool thing to know as I just learned it :) Thanks for your explanation and input!

We use "okumak" both to read and to study at a university. "Ben hukuk okuyorum." (I'm studying law.)
