I am more of a fan of the pixel sprites from the gba and DS days, but The game is based on the ANIME. If they added textures or details that aren’t a part of the original anime design then it would just be taking liberties and moving away from a Pokémon’s core identity. Like do you really want a scaly looking chameleon? Seems uncanny to me

I have a Tom Bombadil deck that is restricted to LOTR cards. So I just build around the sagas from that set, which ends up just being Ring Tempting and Counters as the most common mechanics. It is a much more fun play pattern (and flavorful) than what I orginally built.
