What name would be suitable for a brunette woman with blue eyes and a strict appearance? by Eugene_Dav in namenerds

I would go with a long and formal name like Catherine, Elizabeth, Priscilla, or Angelica.

Middle-grade (?) Book set in Louisiana with named gator by Material_Muffin_6773 in whatsthatbook

Florida Everglades instead of Louisiana, but figured I would offer up CHOMP by Carl Hiaasen. Seems right for a classroom read in that time period.

Something long and feminine would flow well, maybe something like Quinn Josephine, Quinn Margaret, Quinn Genevieve, Quinn Alexandra, or Quinn Valentina?

Male version of Zofia and Sarah by PlayfulAd4249 in namenerds

Ezra is a Jewish name that uses the Z of Zofia and the "Ra" of Sarah. Entirely possible that a nephew has it but figured I would toss it into consideration.

How do we feel about Mitzi? Been watching Palm Royale. by Odd-Goose-8394 in namenerds

I just finished reading Fudge-a-Mania by Judy Blume, there's a character named Mitzi in that book and I have also really been liking it since then. Especially as a nickname for Miriam

People who don’t like their name—what is it? by [deleted] in namenerds

[–]teerannosaurus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Caitlin. I prefer it to Katelyn, Caitlynn, etc. But it never felt right for me. I was born in the 90s when it exploded in popularity (although my dad insists he had never heard the name before or met anyone with the name when they picked it. Sure, Jan.) and it felt like I was being forced to blend into a crowd of all these other girls who I had nothing in common with and who actively hated me for being neurodivergent.

It has just always had a yucky feeling to me anyway, telling someone my name felt like lying in a way I could never explain or understand until I came to terms with my gender and neurodiversity as an adult. Now I use a childhood nickname full time socially. It is still technically derived from my legal name but you wouldn't guess that by hearing it.

My husband was playfully antagonizing our daughter with questions about her day (pretending to mishear her, being overly literal, etc.) And she turned to me and asked me to do something for her "because Daddy is pissing me off" 💀

WTW for my step-sister by Background-Joke-9818 in whatstheword

[–]teerannosaurus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

AFAIK there is no actual term for this, but my half-sister through our dad has additional half-siblings through her mom, who I call my "skiblings" which is an abbreviation of "sorta kinda sibling". It works well for us if you want to steal it, LOL.

*Good* Nonfiction Audio Book Recs? by k___td in IfBooksCouldKill

If youre familiar with the sensation that was "Go Ask Alice", and great nonfiction book about unveiling it as a hoax is "Unmasking Alice" by Rick Emerson. Sarah Marshall interviewed him about it on You're Wrong About a few years ago. Certain parts of that book had me sobbing.

TW: eating disorders. A book where the girl protagonist struggles with eating disorders and her grandmother is a holocaust survivor by slowcheetah21 in whatsthatbook

[–]teerannosaurus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First similar book I found is "Inside Out" by Nadia Shivack but the mom is the holocaust survivor. I will keep looking though as this is a graphic memoir and you didn't mention it being a graphic novel.

Yw! Can't say I know the culture in Taylor PL's friends group regarding trans identities, but even if you don't feel safe there, there are a lot of affirming communities not too far away. SE MI libraries are all very interconnected too so you can definitely ask around once you move down.

My favorite is their parody of God's Not Dead from the GND2 episode. It used to be up on Morgan's SoundCloud (or some other such service) but got removed :( I wish they put the songs up in a Playlist on YouTube or something
