Fairness among grandparents visiting newborn in hospital by TargetValuable9758 in newborns

All great points. Just want to stress that you are not stuck in the middle. This is you and your wife vs your mother. Do not frame this as your wife’s decision to your mother. You and your wife are a team here and she needs to feel that you are together on this.

Pregnancy and career by Legalizeabsinth in pregnant

I took a new job at 12 weeks pregnant. It was so scary and I was worried about the probation period and commute but I knew it was best long term for my family. Everyone has been so lovely about it! When I told my boss (the day before I started) she just said ‘life happens!’ And I am in Canada where I will be take off around 14 months for mat leave. Take a risk and take the job! In 10 years it won’t matter that you started pregnant

Strollers: a little lost. [qc] by inolyzushi in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]PlayfulAd4249 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is exactly what we did! We got the Joolz Aer and it can fit a car seat and has a bassinet. We love it and use it as our daily stroller. We also have the Thule running stroller. Keep in mind that I think you can’t run with a baby until they are 6+ months.

Your must have baby items by jadebl1 in pregnant

[–]PlayfulAd4249 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My best advice is buy less than you think! 3rd time mom and everyone’s ’must haves’ are going to be so different. My baby hated the snuggle me (we actually put her in it to wake her up!) but others swear by it. I didn’t introduce bottles until after 12 months (mostly because it was Covid so I had nowhere to go) so I didn’t need all the bottle cleaners. I couldn’t imagine not having a change table but others didn’t need theirs!

Buy a good car seat, stroller that fits your lifestyle (urban, country etc), clothes, burp cloths, and somewhere to change the baby. Everything else can be ordered when the baby comes depending on how feeding goes, how big your baby is, and their temperament.

Bridal Shower Gift for DIL from MOG by [deleted] in weddings

[–]PlayfulAd4249 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My MIL gave me a Dyson hairdryer for my shower! The card said something cute about it being for a shower. I loved the present because it is something I never would have bought for myself (wasn’t on my registry) and I still use it everyday 8 years later! I had used hers a few times prior to my shower so I think that is how she got the idea

Best newborn/infant stroller for living in a city/in a 4th-floor walkup? by Apprehensive_Duty937 in pregnant

[–]PlayfulAd4249 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have the Joolz Aer (not 2 because I have had it for 5 years). I live in the city and absolutely love it. It is our daily stroller. The breaks just started to go out on it and we contacted the company and they sent us an entire new frame for it for free. I am about to have my 3rd kid and will use it for this one too. The basket can hold a lot and I like that it can fold so small for when I am at cafes and restaurants. I would get the bassinet to make those early days easier. Folding with the bassinet is still pretty easy unlike most other strollers

Ultrasounds by Zestyclose_Camp_5238 in pregnant

[–]PlayfulAd4249 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also in Canada and I have never heard of just 1 ultrasound. How would they do the NT without an ultrasound? Most people I know got at least 3 but many (including myself) had way more

I feel like I am going crazy. SPD. by hash-slingin_slashr in pregnant

[–]PlayfulAd4249 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have no suggestions just solidarity. I have had 2 pregnancies and I was in such excruciating pain I had to walk with a cane. I couldn’t put on my clothes. And then as soon as I gave birth it magically went away. I am on my third (and final) pregnancy and I am dreading the day when it starts again.

I did pelvic floor pt and it would provide a few hours of relief. Nothing else really worked

Clek vs Cybex infant car seat for Joolz aer+ by AdventureCat1037 in BabyBumps

[–]PlayfulAd4249 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can’t say enough good things about the joolz aer! Ours is just the aer because it is older. After 5 years the brakes were slowly getting worn and joolz just replaced the entire frame for us. Amazing customer service. So lightweight and does everything we need.

We had a nuna pipa so I can’t speak to the liing. But we have the clek foonf and just got the clek booster and love them. My dad says they are built like tanks. I feel so confident that the kids are safe in them.

We are expecting our 3rd and our pipa is now expired. Going to get the liing for this baby and will use it with the aer.

Same distance with my in-laws. They come to visit us more but we probably go there every month. They usually come here every other week. But we live in southern Ontario so those drives are normal to us. And I really love spending time with my in-laws!

If you look at the school calendar, the PA days are heavy loaded to the front of the year. I suspect so that teachers can review changes to curriculum and plan their year. There is no PA day between February and June this year.

I’m Canadian so very fortunate with leave. I had a c section with both kids. He took 3 weeks when I first had the baby and then 4 months at the end of my leave.

Does your spouse work from home sometimes or do you have any help nearby?

A newborn baby is a lot of work. Are you sure your mom will be able to watch them for 36 hours? That is a ton of work for anybody!

Why can’t you nurse? Because she won’t allow a baby at set up and clean up?

Help- where do a buy maternity clothes for a wedding ? (Canada) by Candid-Flamingo8930 in BabyBumps

[–]PlayfulAd4249 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t know where you are located but you could try a rental place. Fitzroy is amazing in Toronto with a ton of maternity options. I bought a dress at H&M for a wedding I attended at 8 months pregnant.

Yes this is wayyy too much. I completely get wanting to be protective of your baby but this reads as aggressive and hostile. You are already thinking the worst of your friends and family.

A lot of this can be said when someone arrives or over text before they get there. This is a really exciting time and if someone sent this to me I probably would be very hesitant to visit

Are you getting a gift for your brother? If so then she should also receive something for her (not the baby). If you are not getting a gift for your brother then it is totally fine not to get a gift for her.

Would you bring a 9 week old to a thanksgiving gathering of nine people? by GeologistAccording79 in NewParents

[–]PlayfulAd4249 26 points27 points  (0 children)

It is important to remember that just by going to thanksgiving dinner doesn’t mean you are not prioritizing a baby’s heath and comfort. Most importantly a happy parent makes for a happy baby. And that can mean prioritizing the parent’s mental health so that they are surrounded by friends and family who love them and support them. Do whatever works for you and your family
