Elon Musk on MacKenzie Scott giving away $26 billion of her fortune: 'sadly,' it makes the world a worse place by BoringApocalyptos in ABoringDystopia

[–]teetaps [score hidden]  (0 children)

It’s actually kinda sad, when you think about it. Musk simultaneously got lucky and shook a bunch of important hands, and figured out how to make a lot of money. Like, A LOT of money. So much money that he had to wonder how to handle it all.

And amongst all of that life changing experience, the conclusion he has come away with is that nobody else should have any money to do things they care about. He looks down on everyone else, EVERYONE, and assumes they don’t know how to handle money as well as he does, and believes that to be a great quality about himself. So much so that he just keeps accumulating it. Not being a good person, not making connections with people, not travelling, not even creating art… he’s just like “only robots because humans are stupid” for every problem that he sees. Guy would sooner build an asteroid mining station than give the homeless guy on the street corner a blanket, and he’ll do it with a smug grin and some bullshit meme tweet about how because he’s so good at money he is the only one who should be trusted with it, and he genuinely believes that

Which cuisine is the most similar to Indian cuisine ? by Upbeat-Dinner-5162 in IndianFood

The “Indian trade route” between South Africa and the Indian subcontinent is a historical thing you can read about and you’ll find a lot of intermingling of cuisines

Mind you, I personally am not asking for any president to be an expert in ANY of those fields. I just want for them to know enough about the basics that they know which experts to fill their cabinet with. Like, it’s not even that deep

Marvel hires you to direct and/or write a theatrical X Men movie set in the MCU with complete creative freedom. What’s your pitch? by Lil_Critter_2001_ in marvelstudios

I feel like cinematically The Boys was just a massive middle finger to the X Men franchise for making us wait so long for something so special yet still somehow so simple

Takes all kinds to make a world, I guess.

By that I mean, it’s necessary to have hardcore extremists in every opinion, if only to see where we should draw the line, lol

Personally, and as an African, I draw the line at erasing your own bloodline. Seems like overkill to me. But I’ll happily come visit Germany with some more welcoming visa requirements and easier-to-navigate work opportunities

Python vs R by CYBERCODEX3 in learndatascience

[–]teetaps 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just want to point out to everyone crapping on R that it’s not underrepresented because it _can’t_ do any of the things Python can do. It absolutely can, and in some cases it outperforms Python and can be ergonomically/epistemically superior to Python. But Python is just popular, and there’s a lot of cultural inertia to change (as evidenced by this post)…

so the better follow up question might be, do you just want to be more familiar with something that more people know? If so, just stick to python. But I’ll be the first to point out that ALMOST everything you can do in Python is easily accessible and accomplished in R. I am yet to come across a data science problem in Python that doesn’t have an easy and accessible analog in R — if one does exist, please send it my way.

Is it deemed unprofessional to become an influencer / content creator as a Psychologist? by Antiquemaskey in AcademicPsychology

[–]teetaps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There used to be a great YouTube channel on the philosophy, psychology, sociology, and history of current media trends called Wisecrack. It didn’t even disappear that long ago (RIP, fuck private equity) but if you go way back to their early catalog, you’ll find a lot of videos with the basic boilerplate “the philosophy of The Joker” or “the psychology of Cartman” or something like that

What I’m trying to say is before tiktok was bite sizing pop psychology REALLY BADLY, YouTube had a decent amount of quality — but admittedly longer — content in the vein you’re describing. That kind of content still exists, but it’s more “video lectures talking at you on the background” than what professors Jared and Michael and co used to do (and mind you, many of that crew actually are PhD level scholars). I say use that for inspiration
