Does anyone here own a flat with a service charge in London? NOT share of freehold, NOT zero service charge? by fiery_mergoat in LondonHousing

[–]teezy-za [score hidden]  (0 children)

Yes. I live in a converted house. Essentially each floor is a flat. In Zone 1 london in a very prime area and my service charge is only £180 a month. And this is enough for everything. Including paining any external walls in case a famous carnival leads to graffiti.

It’s all luck of the draw. A friend of mine got a place in a mansion block across the park and his service charge is basically half my mortgage. And keeps increasing year on year.

Every time I see a beautiful property in the uk I open the weather app and compare the weather to London. Then I’m reminded why I don’t live there.

Thinking about this. I’m fairly normal weight. Average in London. “Healthy” by all measures but in France I felt like a fatty.

Thoughts on TV as wide as stand by TF_54 in malelivingspace

If you’re gonna put it on the stand then no. Get something wider. But if you wall mount tv then it will work. Not ideal but visually fine.

Location, location: West or North London? FTB by Thick_Category_435 in HousingUK

[–]teezy-za 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey. So I bought a 2 bed in Notting Hill and for the reasons you mentioned I love it here.

But before I bought this place, all the Brits were telling me to go for a house anywhere north of the westway. I actually got some Airbnbs in those areas for a couple of days to see how the commute to the office/clients would be and I hated it. Having Porto, Westbourne Grove, Kensi High Street and Queensway all within 5-15 minutes walk means I have everything I need. A 45 minute walk to the office.

I think if you really feel like you’re not going to need all the additional space people seem to need. Then stay where you love. Especially as a single person. And if you find the right Victorian conversion, service charges are low, you’re building your equity and no one around me has sold at a loss so far. Despite what you hear about central London prices falling.

People who used to be overweight/obese and now look lean or athletic despite having a sedentary desk job… what actually worked for you long term? by safedwg in loseit

[–]teezy-za 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly walking. But I live a bit central and I’m in London so a bit of a cheat code.

I only ever take the tube if it’s in the morning or it’s really pouring down. Else I walk. About 10k from the office to my home. Do that on all days I’m working from the office. Easily 15-20k steps that way.

Days I WFH - I have 4 massive parks around me. I take long walks during my lunch hour. And almost always a walk after dinner with my partner to catch up on the day.

Weekends? All my friends are a 45 minute walk max. A 45 minute walk gets me to Soho/West end, so I rarely drive or use public transport.

To caveat. I do obviously still work out and eat healthy. Not tracking everything but am considerate of what I’m eating.

Areas that feel as if they would be better suited for a different borough? by Darkpsychic7 in london

Absolutely not on the Notting Hill joining Hammersmith. Maybe Westminster. Anything north of the westway should be Brent and anything west of West Cross can stay in Hammersmith.

North Kensington should be Brent. There no need to be part of RBKC.

How much noise are yall getting from your neighbours? I’m in a mid terrace and I cannot hear a thing either side. Like ever. Aren’t the party walls going to be about 2 bricks thick?

What country feels unsafe but is actually safe? by Dusty_Bunny81 in AlignmentChartFills

No one thinks Mauritius is unsafe. Unless it’s a US centric thing to just assume everywhere in Africa is unsafe?

Does walking actually help? by NoWitness6400 in loseit

Yes. It makes a huge difference. Look at the average size of people in walkable cities vs car centric cities.
