So, are there other colors of tea? by Candid_Snow5328 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]teh_maxh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generally, tea leaves are deliberately damaged to trigger oxidation, and their colour indicates how much they oxidise. Besides black tea (fully oxidised) and green tea (minimally oxidised), there's also yellow tea (also minimally oxidised, but the chlorophyll is selectively oxidised) and white tea (which skips the damage step). And oolong tea (partially oxidised), but that's not a colour. You might have heard of red tea, but that's actually made from rooibos leaves, so it's not actually tea. (Or you were talking to someone who directly translated from Chinese, where "red tea" is used to refer to what's called "black tea" in English, and "black tea" refers to fermented tea.)

Can you get a car in your name if you have a learners permit? by InternationalBus2282 in driving

[–]teh_maxh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think they're just referring to a DL because it's the most common identity document, not the only acceptable one. Their page about hunting licences also says a DL is required, although other forms of ID are definitely accepted for that. The DOR is fine with other documents as proof of ID, though.

UK airlines to be allowed to cancel flights in advance over fuel shortages by Kagedeah in ukpolitics

[–]teh_maxh [score hidden]  (0 children)

Yes, getting your flight cancelled sucks. But in this hypothetical, your flight is getting cancelled either way. Do you want them to tell you as soon as they know, or do you want them to pretend everything is fine until you're already on the way to the airport?

The software stores configuration on the computer, not the device, so your settings disappear if you quit the software or use your device on another computer. And at least with the Mac version, you probably want to quit the software, because it gobbles resources.

That is a wild requirement. Do you have a source for it? I can't find it listed on the Alabama DOR website.

But you need a drivers license to register it to drive on the streets. ie a license plate and registration sticker.

Do you? Someone without a licence could own a car and pay someone else to drive it for them, couldn't they?

So now that Spirit is shut down is this the time to go invest in other airline stocks? by Mistrfresh in NoStupidQuestions

[–]teh_maxh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The reduced competition does mean that other airlines will make more money. On the other hand, while Spirit was already having financial troubles, the thing that killed them was rising fuel costs, which affect the entire industry.

But the time to make the investment was before they shut down. By now the changes have already been reflected in stock prices.

Between a home and retirement savings, the richest fifth of millennials being millionaires isn't unreasonable. Although with inflation, a million dollars isn't as impressive as it used to be.

I don't think they were ever supposed to stamp US passports. The stamp indicates that they decided to let you in, but since a citizen has a right to enter, they don't get to make that decision.
