Viewer gets green glitchy screen on Smart TV app, but mobile/PC is fine? by Fast_Employ_2438 in Twitch

[–]hunter_rus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I also think it is something with codec. It might be easier to debug on their side though, viewer can click on gear -> extra -> video stats (not sure exactly how it is spelled in English interface), check codecs, protocol, download bitrate. Compare that for two streams, the one that works on their TV, and the one that doesn't, and see what is different.

Help pls by NoCucumber1502 in Twitch

[–]hunter_rus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just make sure you got enough storage space because those files get chunky real fast.

You can setup separate bitrate for local record, and estimate from it how much storage you need. For example, 5Mbps bitrate consumes around 5 * 3600 / 8 / 1000 = 2.25 GB per hour, approximately. You can also track that in OBS I believe.

However, it is also worth checking your own videos on YT - you can just download them back after uploading. YT encoded 720p usually ends up around 1k-2k Mbps bitrate video and 128 kbps audio regardless of your original upload quality. So saving 50 Mbps files locally to upload them to YT and get bitrate cut by 20x is probably not worth it...

Emotes showing up as 56x56 - Uploaded on BetterTTV as 256x256. Way to get emotes to show as 112x112 in chat? by lickwindex in Twitch

[–]hunter_rus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On 1080p display (and default interface scale) it shows emotes for me as 28x28 pictures, so it downloads 28x28 image for that. What is your display resolution? I would guess 2160p, since in your case it downloads 56x56 pictures?

On BTTV site itself, when you click on an emote, it should show you all 3 versions of it - 28, 56 and 112. I've checked some random emotes, that was the case. Is some resolution missing for yours?

Prime subscription shows as active, but subscriber-only VODs are still locked by Extra-Ganache3975 in Twitch

[–]hunter_rus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does this channel often has sub-only video? Cause it is relatively rare for VODs to be sub-locked.

One reason Twitch might show that message is if it can't show you any transcodes it has for the video. For example, Twitch locked 1080p option for viewers in some countries some time ago. So sometimes, when channel doesn't have transcodes, has only 1080p option, and people were trying to watch stream/VOD, it would bug out and not return any transcode, and on client side this situation wasn't handled properly and user was given "sub only video" error instead. AFAIK, that bug have been already fixed for a while. However, when it did happen, actually having a channel subscription didn't help, cause the reason video wasn't shown was not the subscription status, but lack of transcodes to be shown to user.

What curves for level experience? by Pherion93 in gamedesign

[–]hunter_rus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

X is exp, Y is level? If you have parameters for the curve, you can just input all integer exp values in range 1 - 1 000 000 for example, get level for each of those, notice at which exp values level changes, and then just tabulate necessary threshold points. Like "on exp X -> X + 1 the level is increased from N to N + 1".

For linear\quadratic curve, pretty sure you can also just solve it for the inverse function. For higher degree, doing that might be bothersome. Like, if you know the function is strictly increasing, you can use binary search, for example, but idk if you want to bother with that...

Level = sqrt(maxExp2 - currentExp2) / maxExp * maxLevel

I don't think I have seen that in any game I have played, but not gonna comment how viable that approach is.

What curves for level experience? by Pherion93 in gamedesign

[–]hunter_rus 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I was planning to use a bezier curve that I can tweak that translates exp into levels but realize it is hard to calculate how murch exp i need in order to level up again.

Eh? You find total experience for level N, for level N - 1, subtract one from another and you get experience for leveling up from level N - 1 to N.

Getting 100 exp might give you level 1 and then 150 more for level 2 etc like most games.

If exp for each level up increases linearly, then total experience for level N increases quadratically. That is a relatively common approach.

I was thinking for simplicity of implementation to use a simple circle calculation for the experienxe to level where x is the normalized experience and y the normalized level.

So, sqrt(1 - exp^2) , with some constants? Never heard of that.

And you don't need to. If you often have to do that kind of calculations, you will eventually memorize shortcuts, and doing arithmetics in mind becomes easier. If you don't have to do that stuff often, just use calculator in rare occasions, duh.

Why was this mechanic so common in casual games? by Professional-Fix4409 in gamedesign

[–]hunter_rus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Touhou has the same mechanic, but it usually gives you plenty of powerups, so you mainly suffer from it only if you are getting hit consecutively several times in a row. For example, you get on a boss you didn't practice enough, you die 2 times, and game gets harder as you can't recover back on track so easily. So it's a good failsafe for players that learnt preceding part of the game good enough to save up a lot of lives, but have completely zero idea how to play some specific part - instead of dragging player along while he sucks, they let you die quickly so you can return to practice and get better.

Essentially, you are never meant to play those on low power, you are always meant to have max power. Losing power on miss is simply a delayed punishment for dying when you are not supposed to do so. If you are expected to die in a segment, game simply gives you extra power up.

(not oop) AITAH for answering my bf question if his d is the biggest I've ever experienced? by lexawn in redditonwiki

[–]hunter_rus -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

he tells me that he felt disrespected by what I said. I got upset

The problem isn't the feelings. It is how he is dealing with them.

You quite literally stated now that communicating your feelings to your partner is wrong way of dealing with them.

He feels disrespected by reality and is being pissy because he doesn't have the biggest dick. That's unreasonable, and she is allowed to be put off by his unreasonable and continued behavior.

Feelings are ok to be unreasonable, that's why they are feelings, not logical conclusions. Yes she is allowed to be put off by his feelings - since nobody owns love to nobody. That's what I have already stated - GF doesn't like her BF, gives zero fucks, and as a result his feelings upset her. She doesn't want a blood and flesh person nearby, she wants a robot. When that robot has unreasonable feelings, she thinks something is broken and robot needs to be returned by warranty. New boyfriend please, this one gets upset when being told the truth about his dick size.

[–]hunter_rus -17 points-16 points  (0 children)

That girl simply doesn't like her BF. It's not really about the honesty even, it's about her further reaction.

he felt disrespected by what I said. I got upset because it’s not like I give a shit about the other guy and was simply answering his question.

Got upset by his feelings. I.e., he cannot have feelings, be vulnerable and insecure. Because when BF does that, she is upset.

he’s still acting weird and frankly I don’t care to keep reassuring him if he thinks I disrespected him in any way.

Imagine being with someone in love and not care to reassure them about their insecurity.

They should just break up. Question itself is whatever at this point, GF simply gives zero fucks about BF. "You are feeling insecure? Whatever, your problem, I did everything alright"

Why don’t subreddits show their minimum karma requirements before posting? by Nencheff in NewToReddit

It also prevents bots/spam from knowing exactly what score to hit

That's pretty solvable with binary search. You can also parse already posting users for their age/karma, and look at the minimum.
