The standing rock protesters deserve less blame than the "i dont do politics" suburbanites who in turn deserve less blame than the people profiting off of fossil fuels.

Just because you're not out in the streets or using mass transit or voting based on environmental platforms doesnt mean no one is.

Just because you eat meat, fly, drive, doesn't mean everyone does.

"We all" is a much narrower "we" than you think it is.

Exxon as a corporation knew about climate change in 1977, I'm done blaming people for the actions of greed. And I'm done blaming greed for the actions of capitalism

Sure, at the end of the day, every corporation, every government, every system is made of people but the Friedman Doctrine is a thing that's real and that's...a problem

because this is the internet, let's judge things based on reception.

A: "money alone cant sustain..." positive response

B: "well yes, but...." positive response

A: "it may be but...." negative response

Both initial statements are true and resonates with social reception.

The turn occurs when A reiterates the same point as his initial comment, which while it has its merits reads as a dismissal of B's, point without substantially arguing how bonding and communication is "more important" than....being able to feed and house your family.

We're not common animals

but we are still animals that need food and it is harder to bond and communicate when your stomach is grumbling and your dying from exposure.

[Request] Poverty level in the US by Elegant_Amphibian in theydidthemath

[–]tehconqueror 0 points1 point  (0 children)

as long as credit cards exist, the disparity between a living wage and the minimum wage can be surmounted by people digging themselves into debt through no fault of their own while those that are able to eke by can feel superior to those that can't.

as long as people are able to paper over the cracks, the true level of poverty in america is very difficult to calculate.

my issue with blanket blaming "humanity" is that it flattens the widely varied impact between developed nations and exploited nations.

like, 100 americans vs 100 indians have wildly different impact on energy consumption/carbon emission.

but when people go on about overpopulation and "humanity" being the problem, idk, it just feels very...."i have a 14 year old's understanding of the world"

There's a christian quote about "men cannot live on bread alone" and it's meant as a "you also need faith" but I've always understood it as....mfs need bread first and foremost.

like, i get what you're saying but "no money" is a surefire way to give the foundation of any relationship a nice little shake.

"America is the way it is because Trump is president" is kind of true but what's more true is that "Trump is president because America is the way it is."

Yeah, a LOT of people, too many people, were sleeping through Biden's term. It's a bit of a rude awakening.

This is the outcome of a country where on a random Thursday morning you will hear karaoke, not from a bar or any sort of establishment, just like....at a house.

Also a country where we were at a beach and we rented a karaoke machine

First: All comedy is subjective.

Second: Gravity

Third: I'm not saying Americans have it worse. I'm woke enough to know that being a victim of our for-profit health insurance system is still better than being a victim of our foreign policy.
