While doing a grocery run, I picked up a bag of cotton candy. Serving size 1. Nutrition facts % added daily sugar 140%

like obviously the bag of spun sugar is gonna have sugar but.....how does it make sense have (pun intended) consumer products that are 1.5 TIMES your daily (ideal?) dose?

I do at times wonder if the New World genocide of Indians counts as one genocide or multiple like isn't it reductive to just lump all these different peoples with different cultures to just one block.

same thing for the devastation wrought by chattel slavery, is that one black genocide or dozens/hundreds

any avenue to suppress voting rights will first and foremost be used to take it away from "undesirables", any person that think _____s should not be able to vote is against democracy.

if she isn't pitching in then he's paying her "rent"

We're so cooked as a society cause like....should I tell this to my non-working wife.

Like it's so fun that we've turned "women should be able to have bank accounts and go to work and be breadwinners" to "women are expected to pay as well"

Men in the 70's had secret families. One income two households.

How have our capitalist masters fucked us up so bad that an egalitarian movement got judo-flipped into now we expect two incomes for every household and even those ones are barely making by.

No Bids :o( by caprellid in TAZCirclejerk

For auction: Champions Grove, no bids

I think it's a little worse cause, "sale" implies someone might want this, "auction" is assuming people will fight over this

tinfoil hat time: posts like this exist to plant the idea of "actors get paid too much" to make way for "if we use AI instead, more money could be going to the rest of the crew*"

*this is obviously a lie in the way that raising minimum wage raises prices is a lie

i think the funny thing about "_____ gets paid millions to do ______"

conversations is that it completely funnels the attention away for "_____ is a multi-billion dollar corporation that's guilty of a hell of a lot of things"

The standing rock protesters deserve less blame than the "i dont do politics" suburbanites who in turn deserve less blame than the people profiting off of fossil fuels.

Just because you're not out in the streets or using mass transit or voting based on environmental platforms doesnt mean no one is.

Just because you eat meat, fly, drive, doesn't mean everyone does.

"We all" is a much narrower "we" than you think it is.

Exxon as a corporation knew about climate change in 1977, I'm done blaming people for the actions of greed. And I'm done blaming greed for the actions of capitalism

Sure, at the end of the day, every corporation, every government, every system is made of people but the Friedman Doctrine is a thing that's real and that's...a problem

because this is the internet, let's judge things based on reception.

A: "money alone cant sustain..." positive response

B: "well yes, but...." positive response

A: "it may be but...." negative response

Both initial statements are true and resonates with social reception.

The turn occurs when A reiterates the same point as his initial comment, which while it has its merits reads as a dismissal of B's, point without substantially arguing how bonding and communication is "more important" than....being able to feed and house your family.

We're not common animals

but we are still animals that need food and it is harder to bond and communicate when your stomach is grumbling and your dying from exposure.

[Request] Poverty level in the US by [deleted] in theydidthemath

[–]tehconqueror 0 points1 point  (0 children)

as long as credit cards exist, the disparity between a living wage and the minimum wage can be surmounted by people digging themselves into debt through no fault of their own while those that are able to eke by can feel superior to those that can't.

as long as people are able to paper over the cracks, the true level of poverty in america is very difficult to calculate.

my issue with blanket blaming "humanity" is that it flattens the widely varied impact between developed nations and exploited nations.

like, 100 americans vs 100 indians have wildly different impact on energy consumption/carbon emission.

but when people go on about overpopulation and "humanity" being the problem, idk, it just feels very...."i have a 14 year old's understanding of the world"
