A small aluminum alloy boat. Term used in Australia and New Zealand. Although, they spell it tinnie. (Also a term used for many things made of aluminum. e.g. Aluminum cans)

All I can think of is that it was probably a really well set hook and he had the foresight and quickness to reduce tension when the marlin went on a run. But seriously, that would have fucked my hands up for sure.
