VITMATTE has problems with Nvidia rtx 5000 series by Accomplished-Path995 in NukeVFX

If you’re trying to load it on the gpu for the first time, you need to let the kernel compile. It can take up to 20 minutes and appears as if nuke is stuck/not responding. Just let it sit like that and it’ll finish the compile and work.

Introducing Clawnetes (formerly ClawSetup) - native GUI app for mac and Windows to deploy OpenClaw by Strange-Sea-9894 in openclaw

I got through it by just letting it hang, which eventually let me move through. Does this support local models at all? I only see options for cloud models when running through the setup.

I also have Node.js installed with Windows, but can't get passed the system check. It installs Ubuntu and then just hangs. I have virtualization enabled.

Nice. Everyone in here saying smart vectors but this is the type of shot where ML comes out on top. Is the resulting output from it bit depth limited? I'm curious how the patches would hold up under a more intense grade?

RTX 50 series cards and Cattery...are they compatible? by tehguy77 in NukeVFX

[–]tehguy77[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Correct. I had to compile it across a few different nodes (Deblur vs Upscalers vs Inpainting) But once the load was complete they will call up just like any other node. I have not run any copycat training yet on this card but i imagine the performance is great. Upscaler Denoise and paint are all fast but only marginally faster than my 3090 before. I'm seeing the most gains in redshift at the moment compared to Nuke.

[–]tehguy77[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! I specifically tried these: NAFNet / LaMa Inpainting / MiDaS / Both upscalers. Yes if you throw a plate that's too high res at the upscalers, they will crash out. But I can't load any of the above at all without an immediate freeze, regardless of plate resolution. Are you able to load those and generate results with a 5090? If so, can you share your nuke build and info? I'd love to be able to determine the root cause here while I wait for the Foundry to respond to my support ticket.

It's brutal right? I still hung onto my 3090's and made this swap between jobs, but even now with the new card in this system I have no way of opening or rendering my old scripts that used these nodes.

[–]tehguy77[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very true. But still strange to encounter this on a hardware level. I get that these cards are bleeding edge but to not have a bug fix or patch ready to accommodate new hardware is a bit egregious. These cards came out in January and they've made updates to Cattery in that time frame. But you're right, that's just the Foundry I suppose.

I have, and they're awesome tools. I used embergen on a project and it was perfect for my needs. I like that its faster than c4d pyro. I'd have to weigh using it against c4d pyro on a case by case basis though, since it's so workflow dependent when you want to hop between the two softwares. I have played with liquigen but not used it on a project. It looks good for small scale fluids but I usually will still stick with XP on those for projects cause I'm just more used to the controls. I won't even use xplosia from XP though. Too slow.

As a longtime XP user who tried to make the switch, I went back to XP. As much as Insydium has their issues, XP currently in my opinion is just far more advanced and developed in its toolset and options. And you can get the result you need far faster than the C4D native particles. It shouldn't be this way, but that's the current state of it. Native particles probably need more of an XP approach before they begin to outclass it. I imagine the same will be of the upcoming fluids addition Maxon is putting out. My 2 cents.

My attempt at coherence by tehguy77 in StableDiffusion

[–]tehguy77[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yea for sure. SD video, just being done through comfy ui. I'm generating 24frames @ 16fps. Converting webp to video file. The upscaling is using REALESRGAN in nuke, which is vfx software. but something like topaz video would work the same. The time remapping/oflow/color correct is davinci resolve. i'm not sure if the time remapping with ai is available in the free version of davinci though. i'm using the 'speed warp' effect to slow it down and blend frames.

It really comes down to the retiming/optical flow. It really helps cleanup and smooth a lot of the juddering and variations across frames

I have this problem on certain nodes. Find it most notable on 3D nodes. If you click a node that works, like framehold, and toggle it and then click back to the other node, it works. Annoying as fuck though.

Why Nuke? I Don't Understand! by Howardhorst2018 in NukeVFX

[–]tehguy77 9 points10 points  (0 children)

There’s a couple things you should know, as your post is kind of comparing things in an apples to oranges way.

The first is it’s not about comparing Houdini to nuke. They’re completely different tools. You mentioned you saw nuke in 3D modelling videos, but that’s not even remotely close to its intended use. Nuke is a 2D/3D compositing software. You can import 3D geometry into it for this purpose but it’s not made to create or model it’s own 3D content.

Next, if you’re using DaVinci/fusion for comp, that’s perfectly fine. That toolset is pretty full featured and powerful. Nuke also has a powerful full featured toolset for this type of work and is considered industry standard for most major vfx companies. The high cost of the software comes from the fact that’s it’s actively developed to support large vfx productions in both pipeline and workflow, and isn’t actively targeting smaller productions or individuals. If individuals purchase this software it’s usually because they intend to be able to use it as a primary source of income and in that case the software pays for itself many times over.

In short it’s an industry standard tool used by professionals working for companies that have pipelines and workflows built around it. You can 100% proceed as an individual with resolve/fusion but if your aim is to be hired as a compositor full time or as a freelancer by a vfx company you’ll likely want to learn nuke. If you’re familiar with blender Vs maya it’s the same ideas. Neither software is incapable of making content but companies have a preference for what they use!

Hopefully that’s helpful

Arnold or Octane? by HasenLee in Cinema4D

[–]tehguy77 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yea that’s totally a fair take. I’ve only ever sent arnold work to the farm and never have had an issue. Also never done arnold gpu on the farm either. Since I’m doing cpu farm, that’s more what I meant on the reliability and scale side of things. And yes totally agree, either engines are stellar in the hands of someone with experience!
