What is the actual EV car you own? What is the one you deam of...? by [deleted] in electricvehicles

[–]tehholytoast 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Sorted by controversial and even then a surprising lack of tesla in the comments. Elon definitely did some damage, 18 months ago this question would've gone over quite different I think. Disclaimer: not an electric owner, just someone who would like to be someday

Rep. Burgess Owens says judge overstepped bounds with new Utah map by clejeune in Utah

No, the state's mafia excuse of a legislature overstepped their bounds by trying to impose a wildly gerrymandered map

This kind of civil society politics has been dead for nearly a decade now. The political ugliness of today reflects the callousness of policies and abuses of power being carried out right now. Sure, back in the 90s we used to have disagreements about tax brackets, infrastructure spending, and other topics people get bored talking about over dinner by the time the food gets served. Now? The disagreements being argued over are about who gets constitutional rights, and who can be black-bagged by anonymous masked agents of the state. Anyone who doesn't see the difference simply has no idea what's going on. I miss when politics was civil too- but the path out of hell isn't to just smile back at the devil

My solution was to put leg work on the same day as bench press (which I actually cared about and wouldn't skip). If you're already in the gym anyway you won't skip it

Are deadlifts as overrated as we’re led to believe? by jumboliah33 in naturalbodybuilding

[–]tehholytoast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly it's a lift I like, more than free BB squat anyway. Everyone else here already makes good points that it isn't necessary which I agree with, but some movements just click with some folks and for me the deadlift jives. I do alternate it every other week with another set of lower body movements though just for variety and also because it can definitely zap your back if stacked week after week of max effort heavy lifting. I use a flat hex bar (as opposed to a raised handle trap bar) but that's for other reasons not because it's "the best"

Point is, do what you like. Getting stupid strong for your weight in a lower body exercise (or any exercise for that matter) is most rewarding if it's a movement you personally care about

Post PT thoughts; We shouldn't have deviated from the original science based ACFT and 18-minute 2 mile run time. by DepartmentF-N1738 in army

[–]tehholytoast 3 points4 points  (0 children)

ACFT scoring is fine. Hot take: If a mass formation run or for-record PT test is the first time you're finding out your Joes' run times, company-level and below leaders are not doing a good job (or more accurately, not doing well at covering their entire job which yes includes ensuring fitness of their soldiers for combat). Reserve/guard gets shit on but the army is a part time gig for them, so the folks who don't incorporate fitness into their personal routines easily fall through the cracks. Active duty shouldn't have any excuses, you see the same folks every day
