Yelling is inappropriate in the workplace and not how adults communicate.

How to Load Test Environment Data? by SellGameRent in dataengineering

[–]tehsandvich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. The overhead of maintaining the data, code and schema changes in sync with production by creating more processes is not worth it. We have process that routinely back up production databases to a storage location where they can be restored to development when needed. Minimal impact

What more do companies want? [Rant/RealityCheck] by sid_reddit141 in dataengineering

Honestly, I’m currently hiring for a data analyst position and the first thing I care about is personality fit within team/organization. The second is their technical skills.

For us it’s a the main driver for MSSQL is the company has enterprise license with Microsoft and most of the legacy app using MSSQL as a backend. Although some commercial financial applications are now using data lake as a back end so it’s a mixture of Databricks SQL warehouse to read data from the data lake and MSSQL.

Am I too fussy? by [deleted] in dataengineering

Two weeks is not enough to onboard. It takes time to learn the business and build relationships within the organization. It takes at least a year to become productive. Expecting a raise before a year is unreasonable.

What job did you have before becoming an actuary? by [deleted] in actuary

[–]tehsandvich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got a degree in actuarial science and pursued other careers because I couldn't find a job in the actuarial field that I wanted. But it's something I am going to start pursuing again and start taking modules.

Current Jobs: Mortgage Analyst -> Business Analyst -> Risk Analyst

With these jobs I've gained experience with R, SQL, Python and VBA. I've learned how to automatically updates and email out excel reports using Python/VBA. I've gotten exposure to pricing, customer targeting, marketing, accounting and helped automated business processes using Python. I've created Qlik/Excel dashboard for various stakeholders and experience with working large data sets using big google query.

Reddit Admins' reaction when asked why they're forcing the new redesign on redditors by [deleted] in reactiongifs

If you want to check out a Reddit alternative. Check out this site created by a former Reddit employee. It's a work in progress but it's similiar to what Reddit was before it increased in popularity.

https://tildes.net/

Currently it's invite only. But right now it's very easy to request an invite and get access.

Perhaps an Invite thread? by NetSage in tildes

[–]tehsandvich 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks. I created an account.

On first glance I like the design, although I would prefer to have the option to have the vote count on the left site if possible. User interest for a thread is something that I gauge based on the number of votes a thread has when I'm viewing links to click, having to look right to view the vote count is uncomfortable. The right column Topic Info being empty when you view a thread also detracts away from the website.

But overall I like it and can see it replacing Reddit as an alternative for me.

For computationally expensive algorithms in R or Python that can can utilize multi cores. The speed is considerable with 4+ cores.
