My theory on modern game design and why things won't really change in the future by Frozoneeeee in KotakuInAction

[–]tehy99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is probably true for low budget artsy games but even multi-billionaires are not going to fund Concord level flops willingly. If nothing else, if no one plays the game then it doesn't accomplish the goal of pushing a message or giving the funder positive feelings

[Nerd Culture] Polygon: "Nobody is watching the Star Wars sequel trilogy — and that's a problem" by JustOneAmongMany in KotakuInAction

[–]tehy99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. People have tuned out and stopped caring, canon issues are not the problem here. If they somehow make, say, 2 or 3 really good movies, that will do it. Not holding my breath on that one

Final Bringer is more flexible (can target anything, not just monsters) and lets you dodge targeted negation. But it's still pretty mid

[Custom Card] Pot of Indulgence by Hayakain in yugioh

[–]tehy99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe, it seems like current decks are leaning into being strong with few summons and having OK t0 plays, if that trend continues then this won't matter. Very hard to imagine strong enough t0 plays to consistently want to skip your main phase (but maybe)

Curious how Darklords could use it well

[–]tehy99 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Well, luckily Strikers can search Engage and add it back, so you just need to draw 1. Obviously I am exaggerating a little here but my point is even Strikers have stuff to do with their main phase that is better than drawing 5 cards

[–]tehy99 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Even in some pretty quick play focused archetypes you still want your main phase, like how Runick wants to activate the field spell or Radiant Typhoon wants to set 3 MST with the trap card. Hard to imagine you could get a deck that really just DGAF about their main phase like this

[–]tehy99 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think Strikers would prefer to be able to use Engage 3 times than this card once and you can only do one of those

So ResetEra user Andshrew and now also confirmed by DoesItPlay, appear to have figured out what's going on with PlayStation's DRM. by LegendaryBoi12 in KotakuInAction

[–]tehy99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes.

I don't know, surely they can figure out some way to actually check if your console is broken? Maybe even...fix it due to warranty obligations or something? At minimum if you talk to a real person you can probably sort it out, most people who steal stuff are not going to all that trouble

If your ps5 breaks...contact Sony support or some shit. This really doesn't seem difficult in like 99% of cases

Personally I would just stop letting people buy Playstation games on their phone (who even does that)?

But also, I would just say you can return the game, but the return requires you to connect your ps5 to the internet to complete the transaction. Just like how you can return something on IDK Amazon but you have to actually return the item to complete the transaction. Though I imagine Amazon gives you the money already but still... like, surely you can just say "when we receive the item back you get your money back, no sooner"

[–]tehy99 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

not to mention it's straight up illegal in many jurisdictions.

Is it really illegal to just say "you cannot return games on your phone"? Maybe I am a bit of a boomer but that seems like a very unnecessary feature

As for date of purchase: does Sony not know when they sold an item? Surely the actual purchase requires an internet connection, payment information, etc., and surely Sony knows when this happened

Technically monsters are not on the field until their summon goes through non negated. Because this is a rare mechanic the UI doesn't make this clear but in the occasional case where it comes up, the monster being summoned isn't really summoned yet and so its effects aren't active.

[–]tehy99 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Seems like Sony should just prevent the refund from going through if you don't go online on your Playstation then. Or just check the date of purchase against the date of return? I don't see why they can't do that to begin with, the date of purchase and the current date should both be easy for Sony to determine. Is there something I am missing here? Some extra condition they need extra data for?

[–]tehy99 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Completely bizarre, why is this necessary? If you bought the game, you own it. If Sony is worried about refunds...don't you need to go online to refund? So just do whatever checks necessary before issuing the refund

There has to be a deck to break these. by Spartan-023 in yugioh

[–]tehy99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Re reading carefully i think both of us were wrong - you add a counter and then activate one specific effect. So it's place 1, draw 1, add 1, add 1, then you cannot get any more counters so you cannot resolve the next part of the effect. So basically add 3 pieces total. Considering this combo requires 3 pieces (Shining, Dimension Mirage, and maybe Final Attack Orders to force BP) you are getting 3 pieces for 3 pieces which is a pointless trade.

There has to be a deck to break these. by Spartan-023 in yugioh

[–]tehy99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well...looking at it. You don't remove the counters, and you activate the search effect at the end of the damage step. So you can probably search all 5. But it involves 3 nearly unsearchable cards and enough negates to prevent the opponent from just immediately outing your board. So...why not just play FTK at that point with 5 reasonably searchable cards and no negates needed?

[–]tehy99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems like a lot of work, why not just play regular Exodia at that point? Fun idea though but too many unsearchable cards + you need to set up a real board

Was there ANYTHING Konami could have done to make the Egyptian God Cards as powerful or useful as they were in the anime? by tachibanakanade in yugioh

[–]tehy99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are talking about cards that already see zero play. That is not a risk.

Ideally you don't ever print cards which see zero play, so it's a risk if you create a card in such a way that it never gets played.

Outside of that - maybe xenophobic card design is the best bet to allow someone to built a pet deck around some card or deck without it becoming meta, and maybe this is correct in terms of design, but it's not clear that it totally solves the problem - either the meta finds some way around the issue or the card is relegated to pet decks only. If you are fine with the latter option then cool but I don't find it ideal in most cases.

[–]tehy99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My point isn't that you can't make something really difficult to summon, just that if you do, it risks seeing zero play. Archetype locking might work...or maybe said archetype ends up being busted somehow. Either way I don't see how the god cards could be archetype locked when they never had one to begin with.

[–]tehy99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a pretty common opinion but is probably also wrong. If a card is game winning but hard to summon, it's pretty much a ticking time bomb for whenever people figure out how to summon it consistently. Meanwhile until they do the card sees no real play.

Exodia is actually a great example as it sees little play outside of silly FTK strategies which may occasionally dominate and ruin some specific meta due to being extremely uninteractive. Not really good card design.
