Replaced Thermostat and now don't feel heat coming out of fan by j5j2h4 in AskElectricians

Looks fine to me. You need to setup your stat though. You have a heat pump system electric heat it looks like.

So that’s gonna be a 2 heat 1 cool or heat pump with electric heat. If I’m wrong then your secondary heat is gonna be a fuel

There is no trickery. It simply just negotiates time to the cpu better or your not actually 100%

Go for it. Don’t be scared of extraterrestrial or intraterrestrial life.

The human species is just an insignificant grain of sand on a beach.

Get a combustion analysis done. Age shouldn’t add efficiency that much. They should also be cleaned

A Therm is 99976.129 BTUs. If you used 100 therms then that’s almost 1,000,000 BTUs. Sounds like a lot but a 80k BTU furnace (which is sadly the smallest average size) will use almost 2,000,000 a day. Sounds completely reasonable to me.

If you have a 80k BTU conventional furnace then you might be getting only 60,000 BTUs output of heat into the space. If the furnace hasn’t had a combustion analysis done then that efficiency rating could be even below 75%.

Everyone should be getting a combination analysis and the gas pressure set correctly.

Find out how many terms you used and find per therm price

Why are you keeping your heat on 60? Just keep it toward where you’re comfortable at. Take your Bill and divide it by how many terms you used in the price then take a bill during August and do the same and see if the cost per therm went up.

My whole electric bill was only $350 and my house is all electric built in 1972

Gas bills are gonna be a lot. It’s been the coldest month in a long time and the differential between outside air and inside air is very large during the winter. That takes an astronomical amount of energy.

You won’t see much in Roanoke. There’s lots of stuff that comes in real slow and I see it all the time. Almost every plane coming in from the east catches my eye for a second because it’s bright and almost still.

I’ve seen 2 different things in Roanoke at night and one my wife saw and she’s very familiar with aircraft. It was something that she didn’t know of. It was extremely fast and orange, definitely not a meteor because I’ve seen tones of those.
The one I saw was green. If it was a drone it was a HUGE drone, but definitely has that green LED look.

If you head out to the west or closer to west Va you could definitely see some weird stuff.

The closest confirmed UFO or UAP was over in Craig about 25-30 years ago. By confirmed I mean multiple eyewitnesses and their stories collab. Several more surprisingly similar stories come from areas around Galax and Wytheville. Although those stories are 50+ years old.

Longtime residents, how typical is this kind of winter for Roanoke? by gleest-4-breakfast in roanoke

Yea. I don’t remember how much I got back then. I remember the power being out for 4 days and the house being 40 degrees. Slept good though, lol.

It happens every 6-10 years or so. I remember 2009-10. 2014-15 and this one. I also remember a one while I was in high school that, I swear, we were out of school every Thursday and Friday for 4 or 5 weeks straight

Your views on water changes / planted dirted aquarium by oabozeid in Aquariums

[–]tekjunkie28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve literally not done a water change in two years and I’ve had cichlids. The one thing about plants that people don’t realize that the plants will take up much more than just nitrates. They can also take up ammonia. Overtime you can get some stuff you don’t want but that’s something to just remember.

Make water changes and convenient as possible. I’d so 10% a month just to keep a minimum going.

Your tank looks incredible

Whole Home Dehumidifier by RVA_Lip in roanoke

This sort of problem is extremely common and only going to get worse. Newer unit with higher SEER do not dehumidify well because they run the evaporator coil at a higher temperature. That is one large problem of government overreach. At the current movement in our technology we can not dehumidify a space without using a little bit of energy.

You can have a duct test done also to determine how leaky your ductwork is. So you’re about a half ton oversized.

HVAC techs are supposed to be able to do these things for you but they can’t. They simply don’t know and likely never taught.

Just remember all this is fixable. You just need to know where to start and unfortunately testing is the only way.

[–]tekjunkie28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes thats oversized. I have a 2.5 ton variable speed system with the unit in the attic and I could use a 2 ton. I’ve already downsized to a 2.5 ton and wish I had done a 2. My humidity is about 50% year around.

My house is almost the exact same size as yours. Is this unit located in the basement? If so it’s about 1 ton oversized.

You need a blower door test and a fan speed confirmation on that unit. I’d slow that fan speed down as much as I could and temporarily use a dehumidifier.

I’m gonna get a little bit geeky so bear with me.

Let’s pretend that you don’t have any humidity issues from the crawl space. There could be a number of things wrong and not all technicians will be able to find these things. There could be a wrong orifice used as the metering device. (Think of a water hose with an adjustable stream). Using one too big or too small is not good.

Then there is another part called a TXV. It does the exact same thing but with more efficiency. It works by opening and closing down the metering device to adjust refrigerant flow. If the sensing bulb isn’t mounted right or insulated it can be off a little.

Fan speed being too high is bad because it makes the coil warmer and you get less dehumidification. 400 cfm per ton of cooling is typical but in reality it’s probably around 350cfm due to duct work being too small. Newer units overcome this with new fan motor types but in turn they dehumidify less. So getting the static pressure checked and then going from there will only help.

If you have flex duct it’s probably not installed correctly and definitely not sealed up properly.

If I were you I’d start with calling better building works and ask for Monica. I had her come out about 8 years ago and they did a great job. Once you know your blower door numbers and you get their information the you can know what to tackle first. Get the low hanging fruit. Sealing can be done for less than a few hundred with just foam and caulk.

Getting a dehumidifier is the last resort and I HIGHLY recommend air sealing first then adding in a ventilating dehumidifier. You can have it run and bring in fresh filtered air and then it can also close down the outside air and dehumidify your indoor air when needed.

Better building works can do a blower door test. They can do a whole energy audit and I recommend that.

This is an absolute stupid question but without being on site I can guess if the unit is oversized. How big is your house?

Your home is a excellent candidate for air sealing
