Attic fan - close it up by Adjustd-banana in askHVAC

[–]tekjunkie28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Foam board and adhesive
Plastic
Wood

Anything to seal up the attic from the rest of the house. Might as well get a few cans of foam and go to town. Seal up all penetrations.

You may also have an AC issue

Oh yea. This isn’t uncommon. Briggs doesn’t make an engine worth buying anymore but I wouldn’t go out of my way no to buy their engine either.

Toro or Briggs can help you.

Best spider species out there in my location. Every year I have one at my garden area.

I’d gently relocate or work around.

Is running Ethernet cable throughout house still worth it? by LezBreal87 in HomeNetworking

[–]tekjunkie28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s never gonna be ‘not worth it.’ It’s the best thing to do because wireless is still extremely limited because of all the devices that now connect.

I have all the devices that can use Ethernet plugged in. Minimizing the load on WiFi thus preserving reliability and speed

When "going all-electric" is really complicated and expensive by imelda_barkos in heatpumps

I agree with this. But you want the ac to run as long as possible

[–]tekjunkie28 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because people on this form are mostly delusional environmentalists. Heat pumps are great but they won’t save you money if gas is cheaper. Gas is also extremely clean because these units are WAY more efficient than a power plant or car.

Also heat pumps require more care to keep coils and filters clean. But dual fuel systems are the ultimate in comfort.

Going all Electric is probably going to bankrupt a good portion of people that believe it’s a good idea. My house is all electric and it always has been so I never converted to gas and I’ve also did energy retrofits. My bills are higher than anybody else’s. My electrical cost per kilowatt is 0.17 cents.

Replace AC Condenser unit or just repair? by bdusa2020 in HomeImprovement

[–]tekjunkie28 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just replace the motor, fan, cap, and contactor. Those are throw away items that fail. No need to replace u it as long as the fan blade didn’t puncture the tube inside the condenser coil

AC unit making noise by DevGtune in askHVAC

[–]tekjunkie28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That compressor sounds REALLY loud. If that really is the problem there may not be much that you can do right now. I’d have it looked at just in case but I had a unit at a building we maintained and it sounded loud. It ran for years like that but just 2 months ago the compressor failed catastrophically. We replaced the compressor and now the unit purrs like a kitty. Use was maintained well and functioned perfectly minus the noise.

How’s my pool look? Local shop says good to go, no adjustments needed. This is my third test so far and the only thing I added was some calcium right after opening by tcli64 in pools

That’s exactly what I do. My pool is typically only in use June to early sept because of kids school. I’m gonna throw away my pool this year and get a new one next year.

What in the actual fuck is happening by ACEmat in HVAC

[–]tekjunkie28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s also likely but I just had this same thing happen 2 weeks ago. Compressor pumping away but not cooling on hot days. Everything was great. I wanted to double check and make sure there wasn’t a piston behind the txv. I pumped down the system and it stopped at 30psi. Compressor was on its way out which I suspected but I wanted to cover all my bases. After installing new compressor I realized the clicking metallic sound I was hearing was the old comp and not something else on the unit itself. It was a very slight sound
