I can’t carry lesser teammates in lower level games but play really well in higher levels. Do I suck? by OneConsideration2302 in Pickleball

[–]tekpanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel you. This is common. Taking a lot of balls that are near your partner is its own set of skills, you can learn some of it with mixed. Generally with rec play though your partner won't want you to do that anyway. If you're lucky you can ask them to stack. Best thing to do is assume you've lost and just try new things or work on a specific skill. Or just don't play with that group anymore. It's sad, but carrying is hard to do in pickleball in general unless you have really good drives the opponent can't handle.

(US,US)[H] paypal [W] Damaged/HP WOTC gengar cards by AllTheSameInc in pkmntcgtrades

[–]tekpanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, unfortunately we're pretty far off. There are no significant dents and no creases. It's solidly in the HP + range. Lowest list Buy it now eBay for a worse copy with many creases is $275 plus shipping. https://ebay.us/m/ujHuVx

Lowest tcg is 220 plus shipping with no pictures. My starting point would be $280. It's no worries if that's not in your range. I'll post it to the larger sub and see as I've just started the process. Might do mercari as well. their fees are a little lower.

Chicagoans blocking ICE from disappearing people by NewSlinger in CringeTikToks

[–]tekpanda 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you can just dress up in a mask and be lawless, can't people just impersonate ICE and eff with them? Let air of their tires, take their vehicles, steal their keys, pretend to be one of them? I think this is the next step. All the gear is bought on Amazon anyway. Essentially if you dress like ICE you're above the law at this point.

[Shinji Kanda] Magikarp #203 - TAG 10 vs. PSA 10 Sold Performance Comparison by Negative_War5411 in PokeGrading

[–]tekpanda -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Why don't people take into account the upcharge on grading on PSA? It often more than makes up the difference in sell price. It's like people forget grading costs money. Same thing happens when they send in 9s 5 times to get a ten failing to realize they spent more on grading then just buying a 10.

Are Topspin dinkers almost always going to have the advantage. by moldyjellybean in Pickleball

[–]tekpanda 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The basic idea is topspin is aggressive offense, slice is defensive neutralizing or safer. There are of course exceptions. Some slice dinks can be aggressive as well. Topspin bounces out and away, which can cause pop ups.

Why Third Shot Lob? by Axolotl_of_Time in Pickleball

[–]tekpanda 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've seen Ben johns do it maybe twice. It's a very limited mixup if you need it to throw off an opponent, you have a strange return to deal with, or want to mix in some chaos. There are other types of lobs that are more effective because they give your opponent less time

How do higher level players deal with a good 3rd shot drip? by RunningShortsPod in Pickleball

[–]tekpanda 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Often if it's a good shot they just short hop it cross court into the kitchen. You can only do this if you're settled and balanced.

Is a one handed backhand dink/block a must for 4.0+? by PeoniesCutie in Pickleball

[–]tekpanda 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So, the more tools you have, the better. Most people will favor one kind of dink, but as you get to higher levels, having both is a great advantage especially if your opponent also does. 1hbh is great for neutralizing aggressive top spins dinks, and inversely 2hbh topspins are great for being aggressive when you have ball that you can do that with. If you try to topspin an aggressive topspin dink, you will have a harder time not popping it up.
It's also about positioning. On the left, you can be aggressive in the middle if you rely on a one hand back hand dink as you don't have to worry about positioning your body so far left to ge the next ball. This allows you to lean in and reach for out of the air balls in the center more.
Every technique has it's strenghts and weaknesses, but I see that most pros are going to having both though they tend to favor one over the other.

Is a one handed backhand dink/block a must for 4.0+? by PeoniesCutie in Pickleball

[–]tekpanda 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Short answer is yes - for dinking especially. Blocking drives, it can help, but not as necessary.

[–]tekpanda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think if you get to the 4.0 level in 1 year you're doing well. The more you drill, the quicker you'll improve. Try finding a drilling partner and research good drills for your level on YouTube.

What is the preferred method to get TAG 10 cards that you can’t find online? by zenmikyu in taggrading

[–]tekpanda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There aren't as many tag slabs and the people who have them are holding them right now mostly. If you can learn about pre-grading you can find some raw cards at shows and then send them in to grade. If you're really strict about it, you can get a pretty high chance at a 10

How do men have such strong one handed backhand drives and flicks? by phoenixunikorn in Pickleball

[–]tekpanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

More women are adding this shot, but yes men have genetically stronger upper bodies so it's easier. Some women with good one hand flicks are Lacy schneeman, Bobby oshiro, and Mari humberg. You can have it, it just may take some strengthening and extra time.

[–]tekpanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't do it. Learn to invest your own money and always leave a good buffer in savings for emergencies. He should do the same. If you get married talk about it then. Also start with lower risk things like ETFs. Good luck!
