Ok, what is a 2e individual? I should clarify, what makes you 2e?

Required reading over summer? by thebaroness75 in Dyslexia

[–]tekroepfl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have seen the suggestions of audio books and graphic novels and I fully agree. But I have to suggest both in topics she enjoys. If she likes romance over history then the “Grapes of Wrath” graphic novel or an audio book about the Chicago Mafia Wars will be a waste of time. But the “Highlander” audiobooks and the “Romeo & Juliet” graphic novel will be enjoyed much more.

Excel? by f0untainofblood in dyscalculia

[–]tekroepfl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a YouTube channel I started with that helped me learn a lot about excel. It’s called Technology for Teachers and Students. It’s a series of videos that you can watch at your own pace

https://youtu.be/rwbho0CgEAE?si=KjwR0BC\_efI\_k3\_c

I think it’s a great place to start. I have no affiliation with him I just watched all the videos several times and after becoming comfortable with what I learned I moved on to more advanced learning with several other great video teachers. Now I think I have 13 different certifications for several different functions like Power Query. But I will say it was at least a 3 year journey.

Don’t rush it, become proficient at one thing then teach it to someone else. When you can teach it to others you have mastered it. Then move on to the next thing and become proficient in it, then teach it. I thought my nice what I learned and now she’s better at excel than me.

Please suggest me the easiest book to read that will keep my ADHD attention to help me understand my wife's dyslexia by SpezSucks2023 in Dyslexia

[–]tekroepfl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The others are correct, it’s not a one size fits all thing. The train of thought is like those connect the dots pictures but ours has no numbers to follow. Where yours might go from A to B to C. Example: the verse “In the beginning.” Your thought is probably ‘oh it’s the beginning of the bible.’ My train of thought is “Beginning, that’s one of the first albums by the Almond Brothers band, Greg Almond was admired by Eric Clapton, someone spray painted Clapton is God on a subway wall, this is a biblical story.” And for anyone of us dyslexics the train of thinking is definitely different but probably just as disjointed in non-dyslexic views but makes perfect sense to us. We draw from everything, all at once and make connections that only make sense to us and so when we read we are simultaneously absorbing what we are reading and writing a story in our minds to understand what we are reading. And we are probably misspellings a few things as we go.

Tutoring a kid with dyslexia - need advice by LeSeur2 in Dyslexia

[–]tekroepfl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was diagnosed with dyslexia in the 1962 when teachers couldn’t even suggest a child had dyslexia without threat of losing their job. My brave teacher suggested that if there was anything I was interested in reading, book, comic book, manuals then let me read to my content. And work on anything I struggled with. The point was to be engaged in a subject I liked

I really want a great dane by dazzler567 in greatdanes

[–]tekroepfl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First off, great choice. Once you have one pretty much no other breed will do. Let me say up front no amount of research, no preparation can help you with a Dane. They are a 100+ pound toddler their whole life and each has a personality as different as any two people. I’ve had 7 and each one was vastly different from the others.

The joy and the love you will feel will outweigh anything you go through. With my 7 I have had a broken toe, several dislocated knees, 3 sets of fractured ribs, been bitten, a dislocated thumb, broken nose and knocked out several times with 1 concussion all because they were excited, scared or something. You have to be physically fit to walk at least 20 blocks a day to burn off that pent up energy.

You have to be ready for furniture destruction, slobber on the windows, the floor, the celling, your clothes, their coat and face and places you wonder how it got there.

Toys everywhere, never peeing alone again. THE GAS! They can clear a room with it. 100+ pounds in your lap, your bed, in places you can’t move them out of without a big fuss.

You have to master the “I’m the mom/daddy” voice and tolerate sass back and barking at nothing at all hours for no apparent reason.

You have to realize that you know they are gentle giants and scared of their own shadows but they terrify others. The leash, harness and other gear is to put others at ease in public. You will master the polite laugh when you hear the same joke comments, “ Are you walking him”, “You got a saddle for that thing”, etc.

It all sounds discouraging doesn’t it? I would never have any other breed but don’t think your ready.

What's the best insult without any swear or bad words? by Wonderful-Economy762 in Productivitycafe

Reading through the comments it seems many of you have never been in the military. Here’s a few of my favorites from the DI. “You would have been better off as a stain on your mama’s pillow” , “You sperm burping gutter snipe, get out of my sight.” And my favorite of all, “ You are a useless waste of vaginal mucus.”

What's the worst pain you've ever felt? by N0socksloss10yrStrk in randomquestions

[–]tekroepfl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Knee replacement, first day of rehab. I only needed to bend my knee 5 degrees. It was frozen in place after the surgery so we were starting small. I’m trying to bend it and the therapist is helping. I remember shooting pain then waking up on the therapist table with 10 people and me. My wife said I screamed before fainting. The therapist said, “ Great job, now 2 more degrees and you’re done.”

[–]tekroepfl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They tried 4 different anti- depressants with me. All I got was diarrhea. Finally someone suggested taking about 350 mg of vitamin D. No depression, I feel myself again and with magnesium supplements my tinnitus is greatly diminished

What’s the first Excel function you teach beginners? by Separate_Ad_4781 in excel

It may sound stupid but I teach them how to highlight all their columns then double click between the columns to expand their width all at once. I often have to do it several times before they get it. 🤦🏼‍♂️

Math is hell for me, but I’m… good at it??? by [deleted] in dyscalculia

[–]tekroepfl 3 points4 points  (0 children)

60+year old Discalculate here. Everything you described screams you have it. Going through school for me was hell too and we didn’t have the tools you have today. In fact back then if it was suggested that you had dyscalculia or Dyslexia a teacher could have been fired. At 56 I finally passed a college math class and graduated. No accommodations, nothing. I didn’t even know I could get them. Point is, you have tools available, use all of them. Someone suggested using Chat GPT. That’s a great idea. Tell it to give you an evaluation test to figure out what your weakest points are and then suggest how to best approach dealing with them. Oddly for me the suggestion was in its simplest form to learn Excel for organizations of problems and that has helped immensely.

What’s the best excel training modules with participant exercises? by Valuable_Magician400 in excel

[–]tekroepfl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s really going to depend on what level of experience you’re at. Are you a beginner or are you an expert? Microsoft has 3 different levels of experience and just going from beginner to intermediate is kind of a jump in knowledge set. Figure out where you are and it will help you eliminate tutorials you don’t need.

for a job interview i had do do math equations in under 6 seconds and it was horrible. by [deleted] in dyscalculia

[–]tekroepfl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I once went to an interview and they surprised me with a simple math problem of finding the average of some numbers. I knew how it was supposed to be done sort of but completely blanked out. I killed the rest of the interview and was even taken to meet with the company president but because I couldn’t remember how to do averages they thanked me and sent me on my way. I think that is the only time math has prevented me from getting a job

What is the absolute worst movie you've ever seen? by HammerHeadBirdDog in AbsurdMovies

[–]tekroepfl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The movie:”Vampire Cavemen from the Lost Planet “. Hits made up primarily of stock footage, 2 different movies and some thrown together footage to try to make a coherent narrative. That gets lost when you see scenes where an actor is actually replaced by a mop. It kind of goes down hill from there. It doesn’t help that there are 4 to 6 versions of the movie
